How can i advance my timing as im constantly running 95 octane?
Or better off jus leaving it?

Does the ecu sense the octane levels an thus change it automatically? I know with nissans, this is quite common... not sure with honda's

Motor D16y8
(even though its jus a D16y8, i do get better kms outta full tank from 95 than 91 octane)

D16Y8 does not run a Knock sensor so the ECU will not detect any engine knock.

you will be fine running 95RON

How about b16? It's tunned for 95octane but I always run shell vpower being 98 octane

no probs there either, some B16A2 run knock sensor. depends which ECU you have.

you can advance your timing by turning your dizzy, if you use higher octane fuel you can advance it, but unless you have a timing light you may have problems if you do it and get pinging.

im guessing the gains would be minimal and not worth it?

the gains are there, a small ammount of power, extra responsiveness, and better efficiency.

buut if your unsure about anything like that you'd probably be better taking it to a mechanic or tuner if you wanna fiddle iwht the tune

stock ecu

not all stock ECU have Knock for B16A2

When I had my Civic I had the timing advanced (D15B4). Crap engine however it did make a difference in my opinion. Won't make it 'faster', but it's more responsive. As a free mod/almost free mod? I think it's worth it. I was running 98 and after the timing was advanced I got a small increase in fuel economy (from about 480km before the fuel gauge hit empty to about 500-520km). Pays itself off!

IMO if you wanna play with timing. Especially when its electronically controlled. Go get a piggyback ECU and get it tuned.
Just remember that when youre changing the timing from the dizzy itself youre advancing or retarding the timing through out the rev range.
All youre doing is moving the powerband further or lower on the rev range. Youll most probably end up with the same peak power.

I'll reiterate what's already been said even though I had it done on my 4AGE Corolla. The gains had will be marginal at best and to make the most of it then you'll neesd a piggy back ECU to tune it. My mechanic
advanced my timing from 10 btdc to 12 and I've been running in 98 octane for a while. If you advance
it too much, you risk detonation so make sure who ever is changing your timing, that they are using a timing light. On a side note, I took it to the race track with a few additional mods and it went a
few a secs quicker

Yeah every car is different, best to buy a timing light and try!

My car is 2 deg advanced and running the MSD ignition system,NGK iridium plugs and pivot raizen spark soon too! :)

I always keep my ignition system running 100%.
