Hi guys,

Just a quick Q's does anyone use Premium Unleaded for the Honda Civic 2009...reason i ask is does it worst it...since it's like 10c more expensive but it's more efficient for the engine right?

try and tank of both and you decide for yourself

i have only used premium in my fd, and wouldn't step below it.
but then again, i dont care about the petrol prices.. its a few cents here and there..
but in the long run, your car will run better and get you further.. and it makes my exhaust pop. lol

you should factor in the time/value for yourself driving to the petrol station sooner on the 91 octane petrol, rather then getting that extra 50-100 km's on the premium.. get me?

I only use prem. too.

It's recommended, so it's more than likely to have benefits outweighing cost

I have noticed when I use unleaded, the car is very jerky on/off the accelerator ( e.g 4th gear 60km/h)....much smoother using premium. I get the same mileage using 98 and E10, but much better mileage on 95 (not sure why)

are you auto or manual?

i think your meant to get more mileage out of lower octanes, but it depends how you drive ;)

engine is designed to take in 91 unleaded and E10.. no point in putting 98, waste of money and i see no huge difference in milege
havent even tried using E10 as i heard bad stories abt it

but when i use 95, the car runs smoother than using 91

I drive manual....although I wish I had auto now....cannot ever get gear changes smooth...I drove Getz the other day and it was way easier to change gears.

Just need to get use to the clutch for smooth gear change :D. Try wearing a pair of shoes with a low sole (so you could feel the friction point a bit better), but yeah back to the fuel if you really wanna know how a tank of fuel is, you prob have to fill it up a few time with the same fuel and run your car almost out of fuel or else you will just get a mixed fuel and it will feel the same. Iam getting about about 570km with 44L of bp ultimate. on a my10 manual vti.

You can't shift smoothly because of the DBW lag.

just hold ur clutch in for a bit longer to let the revs drop a bit more

Does anyone use the octane booster additive that you put after filling up?? Is it recommended and or does it work well?
Interested to hear experiences.

Premium Unleaded is the way to go. i seem to get more kms out it and less using unleaded. bit more smoother too. its 10c more expensive but worth it. its suppose to burn quicker and better for the engine cleans it out

I've had the car for two yrs now and have used between 91 and 95. 95 is far smoother and picks up revs smoother than using 91. I tend to use both at different intervals and have gained more km's out of 95. Have always been using shell petrol since its my closest petrol station.

yea i feel 91 is too sticky as well
it feels good even when i rev only to 2k rpm
you can feel the different

i use BP ultimate by the way

and have used other 98 as well but i find BP ultimate is the best
just my opinion

i reckon its all psychological
to be honest i just use E10, can't tell the diff plus mileage doesn't seem to be much diff for me anyways, so why pay more?

E10 is crap not because it is cheap, it is cus it has ethanol which doesn't really do much good for the engine for long term use. Although ethanol fuel will add a more octane to your fuel it = less power (read second paragraph http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating) and correct me if im wrong it also burns at a higher temperature then your premium fuels, which might cause damage to your engine. (look at burn values for ethanol vs gasoline on first table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heating_value)

crutis when do you notice the dwl lag? i haven't notice much and when does it occur? been having a look around the 8th civic forum cus i didn't know what it is. But generally they said you only feel it when your cars on high revs. Sorry for asking so much cus i don't know much :), btw do u feel it shifting down or up gear ?

in my auto car mate, when i parallel park via reversing into the parking spot, the car shakes when i apply pressure to the brakes like a manual car not gettin enough gas when launching. and thats with E10 petrol
Similarily, with aircon on with E10 fuel, car shudders a bit more when im standing still at the traffic lights.
When im thrasin this car from 0km going up to 60km, when the sloshbox clicks into another of its gears, i let smoke out lols, a nice big fluff. and i thought it was a problem, so i made a thread on OH called 'smokey when vtec' in the 2000 and below section.

now i use BP ultimate
never had any of these weird problems with the car since.

theres a difference mate, maybe not in mileage (in my case) but it is a much more better ride and now i have a peace of mind whenever i let lose the wild cam :P

well i've tried everything over the 3 years i've owned my FD and i can honestly say mileage aint a problem

as for performance, i seriously can't tell the difference, this is probably due to driving style because i don't rev much as i don't track / hoon / let loose at the lights as many of the younguns here :)

nothing wrong with E10, my car hasn't had any problems, the car is designed to be able to take E10 so why not

as someone said, perhaps it helps with you rev so i'll "trust" you guys then...but its just a civic FD, a family car with no real power at all, see no point in being fully sik bro ;-)

ill continue to use E10

I've been using 91 unleaded and after reading all your posts I thought I'd give BP ultimate a try. I'm about half way through my first tank of ultimate and my 06 civic is definitely running smoother. A good example is when I go back on the throttle after coming down a small hill at 60. There used to be a far bit of shudder from the engine as i reapplied the accelerator, now it's a lot smoother. I don't think I'll switch back to 91. Ultimate all the way.

I been using 95 Premium for a week already, and it's more smoother :-).
BTW would i damage my car say if i use different brands of fuel for example 1 week i fill up at Coles another week at BP ?

Yep 98 premium I the way to go, only costs me $20 each time I fill, yes I do get a little less fuel than if I filled normal 91 but meh, engine is getting old and she does like to rev so why not take care of her...BP ultimate has it's weeks where good then very laggy, most consistent premium fuel around me is shell....Evan tryed Mobel premium the other day and that went very good..........Btw I'm running stock D15b7 with advanced timing and intake, lower than 95 makes it go ping ping ping fuk u shit fuel ping ping ping lol

i put some v-power fuel in and my car is running MUCH smoother.

for the extra money its worth it i recon.

kawai
21-04-2010, 11:21 AM
derrick i dont think you will damage your car just they car wont be running as efficiently, cus the change of mixture in the fuel. The car's computer then have to get use to it, in my old civic eg i notice the revs going up and down trying to adjust for a little while.

when i use v-power i can smash an R35 GTR easy.

when i use E10 the guy that cleans my windows at the lights can beat me to the TAB on foot.

i m using 98 ron... tried 95 ron but the car becomes more sluggish... engine is louder and rev stays higher more often..... now back to 98 ron.....

Come on Curtis, i know you can do a lot better than that - 6.78 was my average taken over 60,000km & that was with an Auto.

Not all highway driving, that would be just about impossible over that distance. I would call it 65 to 70% rural roads. no decent highways in this part of qld.

Wrong, I had bigger wheels + big spot lights which would have effected aerodynamics to a certain degree.

you didnt have bigger wheels. you had upgraded honda oems. its not like your on 19's.

and the big spotties wouldnt have mattered for shit.

you have a feather light right foot. its all good. i aint hating.

props for getting such good k's out of an FD.
