Hi to all,

Im a pretty new dc5r owner on 6 weeks infact and i had to take my cannon off because of roadworthy certificate and have replaced it with a muffler.

Car has 2.5 inch exhaust system to the new muffler on the end.

I have noticed a huge difference in power loss since installing the muffler, compared to having the cannon.

Do you guys think that i am paranoid. Or have i lost power is there a big difference

Please help. cheers

simply go dyno it to check for any power loss, i think you're paranoid. canons look gay imo.

Have you got any info on what you had before and what you how now?

Could be a "placebo" effect... in that because there isn't as much noise, you don't think you are going as fast.

Canon's are one of those things. The bigger the better I say. Wake a 7 inch diameter canon on, and you'll surely gain power.

Yer before i had a hurricane cannon and know i have a muffle. When you put your foot down in low revs it seems to struggle compared to when i had the cannon.
I loved the power that the cannon gave me but it was very loud which i didnt really like.

I reckon that having a injen cai with standard exhaust sounds better.

cannon/tip = no power gain

unless in this situation your new muffler is really really small?

to the OP, if you can, grab a XFORCE Varex

So you're too busy to answer my phone calls, reply to my SMS's or respond to PM's ??

I've read from somewhere that NA cars such as Honda's need the back pressure for more power gain, hence why Spoon have really small tips to provide back pressure. On the other hand, K-series don't need as much back pressure as B series. I think you're just being paranoid and no point dynoing because you might not have a before dyno to compare with. Also, if you did lose any gains, it wouldnt be big enough to worry about anything =) Anyone with more knowledge, please correct me if i am wrong

Merely changing the muffler should barely make any difference in terms of power.
I agree with 45SET and Lowiez here.
Unless there is a massive difference in diameter from canon to muffler there should be barely any difference (given that piping diameter is the same).

^ True. There is a 'need' for back pressure. But this is predominantly from the piping size and not muffler tips/canons etc.

A Varex muffler has a remote-controlled baffle to control for the volume of flow and also noise.
Thus you can control when its quiet and restrictive or loud and un-restrictive.

Its illegal in NSW though. Not sure about other states.

If its just the muffler, and its the same size inlet as the rest of your set-up, there shouldn't be any power loss.

or maybe they have put the wrong muffler on?

i noticed that its 2.5inch mandrel bent pipe but where they have attaced the muffler it is smaller because the muffler is a smaller than my exhaust set up see below

what do you think?????
