Ignition not turning on until key in in start position

I have an annoying intermittent problem with my 95 dc4. The ignition is only on when they key is in the start position. So you start the car, release the key and the car turns off. Put the car in accesories radio turns on etc as per normal, turn it to ignition on and nothing happens, turn the key a little more to start position but without starter motor going and all dash lights turn on etc as you'd expect when you turn ignition on. It may be irrelevant but the interior fans dont work when its playing up, even with ignition on. It comes and goes and sometimes the car shuts down when your driving which is always fun. Ive done a real basic check over fuses and connections and theres nothing obvious there. Im sorta stuck as to where to start looking for the problem so any help would be appreciated

Sounds like you might need a new ignition barrel

get one from wreckers .. it'll be way cheaper..

Yeah probably resistance/continuity tests on the wires with a multi meter...?

you can test as beeza mentioned. there is detailed info in the FSM and doesn't involve much. Removing the plug from the below dash fuse panel and test continuity with key in different positions.

sounds like the contacts in the switch are screwed, to the left in the 2nd pic. If the contacts are worn that much they may no longer make adequate contact. get one from a wreckers. $130 new from honda is just robbery

Anything new from honda is robbery.. they wanted 200 bucks for a main fuel relay.. got it off ebay for 30 lol
