Hi All,

Have had a problem now for the past few months. Basically, when I turn (more than half a turn... so say 225 degrees or more) I'll hear this constant, quick tapping noise (like a rapid tap-tap-tap) noise.

Its not the CV joints, as on complete full lock I don't hear anything. Its only when I turn beyond that half turn (even at half its not there, but a bit past it it appears).

Any ideas what it might be?

that is a CV joint.. a CV joint when its fukd doesnt necessarily mean its completely ****ed..
I had an isntance where it made the noise as i went straight but not when i turned? explain that.. lol

99.98% chance its CV JOINT.

If its happening at ONLY certain speed it could be something just stock on the rotor/brake caliper?

hmm thanks for the quick reply - though if say I go down the street, turn full lock very slowly I won't hear anything (actually full lock at any speed, there is no tapping). Its only at that 225 degrees.

Assuming it is the CV joints, are they super expensive to repair (I have heard years ago that they are costly.....).

CV Joints are quick fixes, they're about 150$-250 fixed (a bit more if you go to a more reputable mechanic)
Should be a few hours to fix.

They break easily under a lot of stress when turning (eg. vtec in a turn)

$150? wtf lol
i got it put in for $30 bought the hole joint for $50

where ya from buddy ill help ya out

as for braking usually by BURNOUTS or extreme torque steer..
I been through 5 cv joints in 1 year lol. I have done my fair share of burnouts.. But what i did now was got DC2 CV joints. and now its right.. If you look at it .. its actually mroe reinforced than the DA one our ones quite shit. lol

p.s. the DC2 one for some reason only fits the LEFT not the right so you'll have to stick to the DA one on the right side

Heya thanks for the help. Mine is a 95 DC2 VTi-R. I'm actually pretty careful when driving and might push the engine, but hardly ever drive crazily or take corners under hard acceleration of late. I guess the CV joints might just go over the time, bound to happen eventually?

I'm in Brisbane.... would it be worth buying the Honda parts or I'd need to take out a housing loan to afford them? Even 250-300 is way less than I thought, I was thinking more like $800-$1K. Can't remember from who but someone saying how expensive CV joints were to repair (mechanic but this was ages ago).

I have the workshop manual on the comp and was just looking through it - the joints should be listed under Steering right?

I had the same problem in my DC2 with fairly random noises. Both were under certain conditions only.

This the noise, turns out it was the CV joint

Then I had this problem which turned out to be the brake pads

Get them both checked out ASAP as they are both things that get worse the longer you put them off. They can both cause more serious damage to other parts.
