I thought they were starting from $22-23k??

I wonder what this price includes though (ie if ABS standard)... and if its on road...

Yeh, sorry man. $26k on the road for all options, abs, traction control. Not sure what the base on the road $ would be.

best bike around atm, still would rather the cbr over it though based on looks alone, why they put diff sized headlights, would be nice if it had cbr like parkers and indicators on the mirrors as well more of a road saftey thing and looks tonnes better, and for the price you can build the triumph thats sitting in my garage with carbon wheels lol

I'd get a Ducati, even a 916 over this anytime...

Ducati should not be compared to the S1000RR, it is the bike of 2010 without a doubt

Also won the recent Superbike shootout in Australian Motorcycle News.

My dad has the magazine. I'll try and get it to scan some pages.

Ducati as much as they are incredibly beautiful, do not sell a bike with anywhere near the bang for buck of the S1000RR. 193hp, awesome traction control, ABS brakes, etc. An 1198 wouldn't see which way this thing went, and probably even moreso in the hands of an 'average' rider.

Definitely the litrebike of the year...

Although I still very much have a soft spot for the CBR1000RR... and they are getting to be very good value on the used market too!

Agree with everything you just said. CBR1000RR is $17k new, on the road now.

Seriously? $17k is soooo cheap for that much performance.

Hmmm... I've been pondering the upgrade from my '08 CB400 when the time comes... I think a 1000 might be a bit too much of a step up. I might pick up a low km 600RR to bridge the gap... and these are getting very affordable now too. :)

Come on Deano, where's the ride report?

I've read a few other reports, and everybody is happy with the bike.
How did you find the power selector and the power shifter?

I'm sorry man. I've been really sick the last couple of days and I cbf writing anything longer that one line, lol. Thats why I was going to get a scan of Motorcycle magazines writeup. Would be better that what I would have to say. Excuses excuses I know.

Although I did not test out the traction control for obvious reasons, weather you'd say "I'm a scaredy cat or ain't got the skills", I don't care, cause its probably both. lol. But seriously, on a test ride that lasted 15 mins in city traffic, its hard to do anything but give it a few spirts down a straight when you could.

Anyway I'm already going off track, must be the drugs that have been pumped in to be by the Mrs to fight this flu of mine. But yeh, Traction control. Oh yeh, bear in mind this is BMW's first attempt at a Superbike and its looking like its a major success shooting to the top straight away, setting faster lap times than all in its track. No too bad for a first effort. La la, drugs are fun lol *waits for infraction* hmmm, not sure if I can even receive and infraction???

Traction control: Pretty indepth approach to TC BMW have taken here. Not just your ordinary TC, but takes in lean angle to adjust power. 4 stages
ABS: different settings here too, sensitive to abs off. 4 stages

All this is controlled by the mode button in which there is 4 modes, Rain, Sport, Race, Slick. So theres 4 different power levels/response, 4 different ABS levels (abs is off on slick), 4 different TC levels, also wheelie protection is constantly ON and only OFF for the Slick setting. I just kept it on Sport. The Slick setting requires you to 'open' it, so I take it that you need to take it back to the dealer to do so.

Power shifting is great. Its the first time I have ever experienced anything like this, or padle shift or whatever. But I loved it. No clutch leaver action here, just hold the throttle open and keep it there, at the same time just shift with your foot. Just about instant gear changes, seemed pretty seamless and so smooth to me. This can be use only when accelerating (revs going up). Not to be used when cruising (revs steady) or decelerating, you must use the clutch lever in this case. It just felt so easy, which it is. what do you usually do, throttle off, clutch in, up gear, clutch out, get back on gas. Frk seems a lot when when you spell it out!

Bike felt really good to ride. My daily is a Honda VFR800 sports/tourer and the S1000RR did not seem much harsher to ride, talking about road holding/feeling here. Riding position is typically sports bike though and your pretty much hanging over the tank. Still though it felt comfortable. Afterwards when i jumped back on my bike you can instantly feel the difference and I'm like "My bike is so much more comfortable to ride" "Perfer my VFR as a daily" but of course its all in the type of bike sports v sports tourer.

As much as a lot of people don't like the mis-match headlights. I actually like it. I love that it is not symetrical and like the look of the different shapes. Apparently the lights work quite well too.

Seems like a lot of pros and not any cons. Well hell I'm no Mick Doohan, maybe it was the excitement of it all and as said, it wasn't really much time to do anything.

Going by the magazine apparently the suspension was not as sharp as some other bikes they tested. I think the KTM was mentioned here.

Will make sure I get the artical scanned up sometime, cause as said, will provide more info that I could. Also finding it hard to write anymore and my brain feels like its frying.

Sorry for the lack of detail/structure/experience, I'm sure if I did a write up like the above for work that I'd prol get the sack. Its my bed time and much needed rest calls.

Cheers Dean, not bad at all.
I've read that you got to take the seat off and plug something in for slick mode?
Reviewers seemed bloody happy with race mode anyway.

DLO01
28-04-2010, 08:14 AM
Yeh, slick mode you need to take back to the dealer to open it somehow. Not sure of the fine details.

Ok, heres the artical I promised from Australian Motor Cycle News:

Master Superbike 2010 is the ulimate sportsbike track test and was held at Aragon Motorland and is a 5.34km circuit in Alcaniz, Spain. The circuit has beem announced as the replacement for the Balatonring on the 2010 MotoGP calender.

Fifteen riders from the worlds leading motorcycle magazines have 3 days to test out each of 9 bikes. Each rider has 9 laps to set their best lap time. Times are recorded via transponder. Fresh rubber is fitted after every 15 laps or after every 3rd rider. At the end of the test, each bike will have 'best lap' and 'average lap time' to determine the eventual winner. Each rider has questions to answer and awards points for each bike like 'suspension', 'riding position' etc.

Here in Canberra the BMW is $26,600 ride away with all the options fitted.

If youre going to buy it get all the goodies, that's what makes this bike special.

I sat on it and its a top bike but it would be overkill for the road, this bike is bred for the track
where all of its power can be unleashed.

Im hoping when i retire to buy the BMW K1300s fabolous tourer:thumbsup:
Safe riding :)

Green, black, silver. All look great. Don't like the Tri Colour Red/White/Blue.

Green is best though.
