I have an auto from a 1996 EK hatch and I want to take it out and put it in my 4 door 2000 EK
My question is 'This shouldn't be too much of a problem.....should it?'

Assuming your 2000 ek is auto, then it SHOULD be a straigh swap.
But disconecting, dropping, and then reconnecting the trans isn't a job i would attemp without a hoist, or an engine crane. But thats me haha, you might have more tools/balls/knowledge then me :)

No, the 2000 model is a 5 speed & the 96 is an auto
What do you think now?

swap ecu's, insert clutch pedal trim brake pedal replace auto spigot with manual one (new) insert slave master and lines etc. then you may have trouble with wiring i.e inhibitor switch neutral switch etc but if you know what was what on the auto then you should be able to wire it to the manual

I think he means swapping the manual to auto, why i will never understand haha, trust me, honda auto box's are not the best, manual brings out the full potential, depending on how you drive it.
So why do you want to swap from manual to auto...?
Ps. Pritty much do the oposite of what was stated above

Im an ol'boy and live in the city and hate traffic, I like to kick back, have a smoke, check my emails....and I can't do that with 'stick'
Someone mentioned hoist etc....will I really need some height to drop both these transmissions?
And thanks alot guys, some good advice usually costs!

you may be able to do it on the ground with stands etc but id suggest using some sort of engine brace as you will have to remove some of the mounts to drop the box out. all in all it is usually harder to conver to auto than it is to manual as there is more wiring etc that isnt usually included in a manual loom

oh no,
checking emails.
not sure if i wanna be near you on the road.
you CAN do it without a hoist, you ll need to improvise.
however,
what i do suggestis you take off the centre console of an auto and manual and compare how big the holes are. this may be your biggest challenge if they're not exactally the same.
i know in my eg when i did an auto to manual i was left with a gaping hole i had to fill.

lol.....emails aren't they only thing I do......trying rolling a cigarette in peak hour traffic.....now that takes skill
It's a straight side by side EK's so what ever I need from one I'll take from the other
And the onboard computer? I would assume would be different too?
Anyway....thanks guys for all your opinions
