sort of an elaboration on 55exx's original thread (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?85954-riding-on-bumpstops&highlight=bump+stops)

while doing some routine suspension (http://www.fromsteve.net/tech/Damper-Valving-a-Higher-Spring-Frequency-Rear) homework (http://www.fromsteve.net/tech/Spring-Rates) i came across some information about bump stops being used as sort of a secondary spring adding to the main spring's spring rate

so i decided to flick through some paperwork that came with my h&r suspension kit and i came across some interesting info regarding their products

here it is in verbatim:

HONDA/ACURA INFORMATION
PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLATION
When installing H&R Honda and Acura Integra springs, the original stock jounce bumper (bumpstops) must be reused. The jounce bumper is located on the shock rod underneath the dust boot. H&R springs are designed to be used with stock jounce bumpers full length - DO NOT CUT OR SHORTEN BUMPSTOPS IN ANY WAY UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

H&R Honda Civic Race Springs, part numbers 51863-88 and 41865-88 have been designed with custom fine tuning feature, which allows you the option of an additional .5 inch lowering. The normal lowering for H&R Honda Civic Race Springs is approximately 2.25 inches front and 2.0 inches rear. To obtain this extra .5 inch lowering the stock jounce bumper may be trimmed 1.0 inches. This will provide an approximate lowering of 2.75 inches front and 2.5 inches rear.

now i'm off to buy some new bump stops and see how it compares to my previous cut down ones to see if it makes any difference(i'm sure it will)

now from the years of reading everyone seems to suggest cut the bump stops if you're lowering your ride(even said so in the koni manual iirc) but this information from h&r defies that(even though the kit i have consists of koni yellows made for h&r and their own spring)

just looking for views and inputs from people around here on the situation
