Hey guys.. this morning noticed it.. on a cold start.. i seem to be getting water boiling sounds? Water wishing back and forth.. i can hear it from inside the car but if i go open the hood.. i cant seem to hear because of the engine sound.

Am i just worrying to much? maybe it was there before?
Car doesnt over heat.. or nothing..
When i give gas water noise remains the same doesnt increase or decrease after driving for about 1 minute seems to go away.

2nd Cold start exact same thing.. happens.

Warm start.. the sound isnt there, neither is it there on a .. half-warm? (1 quater between C and H) makes no noise like that..

A camry we use to own did that.. then one day conked out because of water pump issues, is it the same thing with Honda's?

btw It's a Honda Integra DA9. 2001 1.8L non vtec GSI engine

The only 'water-swishing' noise you should be able to hear in a car is the fuel in your fuel tank.

There won't be enough room for the coolant to swish around (and be loud enough to hear), but just check your coolant levels anyway.

hey i've got the same problem i took it to honda for valve adjustments and asked them what was causing the sound at the start they said it was the valves. after the adjustment it was still noisy and they came to the conclusion that it was the water pump not functioning as it should. what did you do to fix your problem?

oh ok so it is a water pump issue? i still havent fixed it .. but it hasnt done it in a while, i just bought a new head unit. so .. i guess its always pumped up lol havnet been heariing it. Ill check again tomorrow morning.

and yeh checked coolant.. nothing der drained it to... a few times. So yeh
Hopefully its just a water pump, apearntly water pumps easy to change so yeh lol. or better yet hopefully nothing at all :)

if your getting the sound constantly it could also be your alternator. i took it to the mechanic today and he said its more of a grinding sound my car is making. so he goes its most probably your alternator if it was you water pump that was wrecked you car would have over heated or been spraying water and loosing coolant. just keep that in mind before you do any work. and how do i get a post quality point? it says i need one in ninety days.

My altenrator has been refurbised recently.. i got it all changed n shit. i really doubt its that.

It does it like once and a while.. i reckon its just water pump .. eventually maybe ever a couple yrs later its gona conk out

lol ye if its just on certain occasions its probably the water pump. keep in mind i think that's also got a bearing that need refurbishing so im assuming its cheaper to do that than buy a new one later. and if your on a road trip and your water pump goes get ready for some serious overheating.. just always keep your eye on it.. and how do i get a post quality point?

how much did refurbishing cost? i'm thinking of getting mine done. do you know how much a new one is?

Has anyone ever heard of a Honda water pump failing? I pulled one out of a B18A with over 300,000km and the blades were perfectly fine. So long as you are using a decent coolant, the only thing which is going to happen to the water pump is a failing seal leading to leaking water - it literally is one of the simplest mechanical devices you could imagine - pulley -> shaft on bearing -> impeller.

Sloshing of water conjures images of air in the system. Bleed it for a good while; it's probably the heater circuit if you can hear it in the cabin. Make sure you fill up the overflow tank after you're done, inspect all coolant hose connections for leakage and keep an eye on the coolant level in the future.
