Make sure the engine is warm. And you just rev it until it hits the right rpm and you will feel it and hear it.
If that doesn't work, you have problems.

Theres no pics of VTEC, its inside the engine, you have to hit a certain rpm (diffrent in each car) to notice it, in auto just floor accelrate untill you reach a higher rpm (5000) then you can hear a diffrence, if you don't know what vtec is just youtube it.

you are certainly not going to feel the cam lobes change in that motor, with that gearbox. So your best bet would be to either wire up a test light to your VTEC solenoid, or to remove your air filter where the changeover will be more noticable

With my manual D16Y1 I noticed a high-pitch whistling/whining noise when I hit VTEC before I started modifying. Not sure if it's the same in auto though. But yes make sure you engine is warm because the oil needs to be at the right temperature to allow the VTEC pin to engage effectively.
Should be around 5000-5500rpm.

you have the sohc vtec which is mainly for fuel economy not for performance. the "real" vtec engines are dohc. you wont notice any real performance bump with the engine you have.

vtec solenoid is next to the motor to the left. its gold/bronze cylinder thing bout 4cm wide and 3 cm in diamater
ive driven the auto d16, and u will only hear the rpm pick up, u won't feel anything.
and i also advice u look up what vtec actually is. as u have no clue what it is.
and btw don't look too far left down, where u will see the gearbox gear solenoids, which look the similar to the vtec one.

Its SOHC vtec, forget about it.. go for DOHC vtec.
SOHC- singel over head cam.
DOHC- Double over head cam
