ive had a look at a prelude 3g going for about 800bucks. had a test spin it seems alright, body, mechanics, 4WS and everything working fine. i am about to buy it except theres one problem

Theres fairly considerable ammount of white/grey smoke coming from the exhaust. When the car gives a good rev to normal shifting rpm's such as 2-3krpm, a poof of more white grey smoke comes out. Its not like its pouring out or anything just doesnt seem very healthy, a tiny bit worse than them beaten up mitsubishi magna's driving around on roads

i am convinced that there is a leak somewhere in the engine, possible to do with the cooling fluids. Owner has been using Castrol 20w-50 mineral oil.

Would a bottle of engine/stop leak fix this problem up to the point that its not fantastic, but enough to not get defected and be able to get roadworthy?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

doesn't always work. depends on how bad the leak is.
Alot of things can give the signs of white/grey smoke. Could be even just water condensation

Might find its engine blow-by and cleaning out the PCV system & general tune up may fix the problem.

you can smell a slight sweetness even from the cockpit when u drive it. i would love to clean out the PCV system, only thing is i havent secured the transaction with the seller. could it be anything serious but?
The car hasnt been driven since november last year - extra info.

usually when u smell white sweet smoke its coolant going into the combustion chamber, i would try to take it to a workshop to do a compression test and a coolant pressure test to see if the headgasket is gone.

does it smell like burning oil? everyone seems to talk about the colour of the smoke, but you can smell burning oil. If you are seeing coloured smoke and smelling burning oil from your tailpipe i would turn around and run from the car...

Don't use that shite. Band aid fix and it doesn't even work.

Zilli is right, it could be a simple fix or the problem could be much deeper than it seems (and manifest itself in time with a blown up engine or something - extreme example).

Just FYI:
White smoke - burning coolant
White smoke with blue tinge - burning oil
Black smoke - burning excess fuel
