mad. Install a vtec controller too  LOL
If you look up on youtube, theres a video "mightymods" doing a gauge installation.. But they were doing rpm.. maybe take alook at it and you might have some ideas?

if you don't mind me asking do you drive a turbo car? if not there is very little point to putting a vac gauge in your car. you'd be better off putting an oil pressure and oil temp gauge in if you were after some gauges in your car

this is the autometer install instructions, but most gauges will be almost idenitical. covers volt and vac gauge

get a multimeter or a test light, and find a 12v power source in your cabin fuse box that turns on when the key is switched to ignition. using a female spade connector run a cable from that source to the positive terminal on the voltmeter and both positive terminals for the light on both gauges. then ground the gauges by running a cable from the negative terminal on both gauges to a mettalic part on the chassis.
if u have done this part correctly both gauges should light up when u turn the key and the voltmeter should function, however if the car is off and the lights are on, the gauges will not light up.
to make the gauges light up the same as the dash lights, u need to find the dash lighting circuit, and use that to connect to the positive terminal for the light bulb on each gauge.
for the vac gauge u need to cut into a vacuum line in your engine bay using a T piece and run a vacuum hose through your firewall to the vac gauge.

yeah dood as above, petty simple, i found the best place for getting power wires if from the back of the head unit as you have both the +acc wire , the ground wire and the headlights wire, if you want them on when you turn on your headlights
Let me know if you get stuck and i'll take some pics of mine, i got a vacuum gauge, a tacho (not a monster one) and a water temp gauge sitting in the oem din slot
EDIT: beat me to the post, will take pics tomorrow afternoon after work

if you need pictures showing you exactly what wires to use and what vac line to Tee into I would recommend not doing it yourself. you need some understanding of what you're doing before hacking into wires and not relying entirely on pictures someone else posts.

i think guy above is correct. best ask any of your mates with modified cars to do it

as I mentioned before, if you cant install the gauges with the autometer instructions (which provide more than enough detail) you might not want to try intalling it yourself

BOBAN has sent me pictures which helped alot
can u guys correct me with this?
for volt gauge there are two wires (correct me in color) --------- 1 is for ground and 1 is for 12v connection
all i have to do is (i got kenwood cd player) remove the cd player at the back of the player are many wires different coloured
-locate yellow wire and connect it to the 12v wire of gauge *
-locate black wire and connect it to ground wire off gauge
*i will make sure the wire is 12v and turn on and off with the ignition
i wanted the gauge to be light up everytime not with just the headlight or parkers
and now it should be working?? no other wires to worry bout?
thankss members

You can just wire it up to the back of your ciggie lighter. That is a +12V source that is only on when the key is turned to I or ON. As for the ground, just use the car's chassis. Any metal part with a small bolt connected to the chassis can be used as the ground. Just undo the bolt and wrap the ground wire and tighten the bolt.

Then connect the +12V light signal wire also to the ciggie lighter's +12V. That way it will light on all the time and not only when you turn the lights on.

Vacuum will have a +12V power source, ground wire and a 2 wire plug for the vacuum sensor. You will need to install a T-piece at the vacuum line and the vacuum sensor goes on there. When you install the T-piece, you might have to cut the line. If you ever want to reverse the installation either get new vacuum hose or use a double-ended hosebarb and clamps to join the two cut ends back together.

so for vacuum gauge
do i have to cut manifold vacuum tube and attach a T that i get with vacuum gauge?
if i cut the manifold tube what would happen? will it be empty or some liquidish gonna come out lol?
if not liquid just air...why do people say it leaks sometimes.. what leaks?

That is one way. No guarantee that the vacuum gauge will come with a T, so you might have to buy one if they don't have it. Total Tools would sell it. Just make sure you know the vacuum tube inner diameter and bring the vacuum sensor with you to the shop.
I'm sure someone would have figured out a way to install it without cutting any tubes though.

Nothing should leak out. People it leaks sometimes, because it leaks vacuum (air gets sucked in through cracks or gaps, causing a weak vacuum.

vacuum sensor? isnt it just a pipe that ive to cut and insert T in middle? not a big deal i guess:S
markismaximus
04-05-2010, 06:00 PM
it will only have a vacuum sensor if its an electronic gauge. If its mechanical it wont have a sensor. just a small tube running into the back of the gauge. electronic gauges are pretty pricey so its more likely it will be a mechanical gauge
rey2009
04-05-2010, 06:03 PM
yea im getting mechanical
so just have to cut the tube check inside diameter and get a T put anti leak tape around threads insert it
and connect the 3rd end of T to vacuum gauge
and rest of the vacuum gauge wires are same as volt gauge true?

empty your inbox d00d
what you said above, your vacuum pipe will be the signal (ie make the needle move) and you need +12v & -ve ground for power to light it up

Revy, I wouldn't use any anti-leak tape on a hose joint. Just make sure where ever you put the t-piece the hose or line you cut is the same diameter as the T. The tape could cause a leak if you don't get it air-tight. Best off to use screw hose clamps at the t-piece joins too, the good clamps not the super-rip-off 10 for 50c ones.
Mate, tis also great to see you giving it a go. Someone mentioned the vac gauge not being necessary. It is a good thing to have with a modded carbie engine actually as you can get a better picture of what's going on.
