Hi everyone,

I found someone selling a clutch kit from a D16y1 EG motor (VTi SOHC I believe?), I need to know if it will fit my D16a8 EG Si motor (DOHC)?

After researching Part Numbers on the Exedy site and Clutch Industries site I still can't get a definitive answer.

Exedy site shows the sizes to be the same (212 x 22 x 20T) but the Part number for the kits are different.

Clutch Industries site also shows different part numbers for the full kits but it also shows individual part numbers for each piece.

e.g., 1.6ltr DOHC EG
Kit No. R1284N

Dimensions: 212mm X 20T X 22mm
Cover Assy: R850-647
Clutch Plate: R8254W
Release Bearing: GSB433

and then 1.6ltr SOHC EH VTi
Kit No. R1181N

Dimensions: 212mm X 20T X 22mm
Cover Assy: R850-647
Clutch Plate: R8254W
Release Bearing: GSB474

Based on Clutch Industries site, it looks as if the Cover Assy and Clutch Plate are the same (same part no.) just different release bearings. Can someone with first hand experience confirm this please or shed some light on whether d-series clutches are interchangable?

Thanks

I will say yes, i ordered and fitted 2 exedy clutches for a d16a8 and d15b (which has same components as all d series, including clutch alignment tool). The only tricky thing was the throw out bearing, which give you an option of two. My d16a8 needed the bigger one which is the same as the D15B, not the smaller one that i was provided. Pilot bearing is a 6002 for all d series.

sorry not entirely true.

The D16a8 , has a different clutch setup / drivetrain setup than any other D series. It is basically the same as the local EF8 ( crx ) and some others. But the general idea is there is TWO clutch pack types - one to suit a EG d16a8 ( Si ) , and ALL the rest ( 92-00 d series .....vti , cxi , breeze , gl , gli etc etc ).

To let you know....the Si ( d16a8 ) actually almost has a B series drivetrain. Same input shaft , driveshafts etc.

I think in America they do a 'D2B' engine (D-series with B-series GBox).

Anyway, I think this was covered previously and D16A8 is different to all other D's from '92-'00 as previously stated by ben.

ZC, although almost identical to the D16A8, is a different clutch. I think A8 is 22 spline and ZC 21 spline.

yep thats correct, all D series clutches (aus delivered) should fit any other D series, except the a8

dougie_504 your wrong on the spine on input shafts a bit

20 spine is on 87-88 ed9 AUDM crx with 200mm flywheel clutch plate (not 100% sure if if the same on ef7 crx's JDM)
21 spine is on the 89-90 ed9 AUDM with 200mm flywheel clutch plate
21 spine is on the 90-92 ed9 AUDM with 212mm flywheel clutch plate

JDM crx 89-91 has a 21 spine with a 212mm flywheel clutch plate

You are best look at Excedy clutch finder to work out will fit and won't fit
