just a quickie, i couldnt find a question related to this on the faq, but its still probably been done, with my car atm i havent done anything with the tyres yet as im broke unfortunately, but a guy from work has offered me a pair of some 245/40 sunlop sp tyres which are about 50 % worn but he only wants 60 bucks! my question is, i am currently running 235's at the back and 225's at the front but the front ones are shot, so would i be fine running 245's on the rear, and 235's on the front?
cheers

it would be only good as a stopgap measure...if you dont have other options. if your 225's fit nicely, the 245's are likely to balloon, which means worse handling. how wide are your rims??

hmm ok, well the rims are 18's but i dunno the the width, there called rays gram lights 57g, i tried looking them up but only found 16'' versions so i dunno if there width is the same, also im finding the rear end slipping a fair bit in the wet, dunno if thats normal for an s2 but thought the thicker rears might help.
p.s regarding the rea end slipping in wet, this is the first RWD car ive owned so that may impact my perception of it

It should be easy to find the label on the inside of rim, All Rays rims have these, it will tell you width and offset. LOL at slippage in the wet, well you did say your tyres were shot, so most of the slippage is coming from that. Once you get yourself better tyres, get a decent wheel alignment. That should help. Going even wider on the rears won't mean better grip in the wet, it will mean the opposite. Unless you fork out serious coin on good performance street tyres, your car like many/most S2K's will be tail happy in the wet.

my front tyres are shot not the rears, thats another reason these 245's are a good option cause i can put the 235's currently on the rear, onto the front cause they still have about 90% tread, quite new still

There probally isn't a FAQ because it's not really a FAQ... LOL :P

In short yes you can.

Just took a look at the picture you posted up of your s2k, by the looks of the way the tyres fit on im guessing your rims are 7" or 7.5" all round

It can fit the 245 it's not ideal but you need tyres, and these are 60 bucks but then again, your rim size isn't ideal either.

I say get em and sort shit out later.

what he meant by ideal is based on width of the rim, not what the actual rim looks like.

Rim size buddy, read it right.

rim size/tyre combination is something that goes together...just remember that extra width does not necesarily mean extra grip. your contact patch may stay the same depending on tyre/rim combo. while your usingthe 245's i'd definately save up for some good 225's

17s are the optimal size for an S2000, unless you run some monster brakes in which case you can't help but run 18s

righteo, in that case i might just stick with the 235's on the rear and 225's on the front

There's nothing wrong with 18" rims on the s2000, yea everyones advice is correct if you tracking an pushing your car to the limits where 0.001 of a second counts. But on the street you most likley wouldnt notice, and $60 for tyres why the hell not eh.
Even on the track the Arvou S2000 runs 18" rims and its fast as hell

i still have my stock honda rims, so i would just put semi slicks on them if i was to run track days.

Yea, go for the $60 woo!!!
and you don't even need semi's for track you can even go with the $60 setup.

lol, well i bought them today, and they are noticeably different i cant tell yet if they offer more grip than the 235's that are now at the front, but it seems like i can feel them more when there about to give way, i put my foot down a bit round a roundabout and i could tell the tyers where about to giveway, where with the 235's sort of did slip or didnt, lol anyway thats maybe just me but thats how it feels so far, although the 245's look mean as when looking at the car from the rear.

didnt want to start another thread,

my question is regarding 245/40/18 as rear tires.

apart from it being off the speedo and the sidewalls a bit tall, is there anything wrong with running 245/40/18 on the rears? possible braking failure etc...blah blah blah ?

according to tire calcs, its like an 25mm increase in rolling diameter when compared to ap1 size (R:225/50/16?).
