hey guys just a quick question, whats am i better off doing first performance wise, catback exhaust only or extractors only on a b16 motor??

cos i can only afford one of them at the moment but i need abit more performance, thanks..

if for performance i probably say either way u will get the same result, as stock header & cat back are pretty restrictive

restricted header ==> hi flow cat back = still restricted

hi flow header ==> restricted cat back = still restricted

but if u upgrade ur cat back then u can enjoy a louder car before any performance gain

I/H/E or intake headers and exhaust are all mods that will gain a good solid 10-15kW comdined on the b16
They can be done in any order really, just make sure you have thought out them all in relation to each other, in other words, make sure that they will all help each other perform better.
So what i would do, is yes get the catback first, changes the look and performance of the car, so you will feel better about it and ppl will notice. But get something around 60mm and/or 2.5" inch, any bigger and you will lose power.
Then you can either get headers or an intake, what you choose brand wise will be limited by how much your willing to spend.
Brands like spoon and such have put alot of R&D into I/H/E and it shows in their products, not saying go out and get full spoon, just read and gain info first. Research research research!
Is up to you really when and which you do each mod, doesnt matter what comes first though, all depends on funds in the end :)

thanks fellas, actualy that was gonna be my next question, whats a decent exhaust size for a standard b16?? ive been told 2 and a quarter, but im thinking 2 and a half

what do u guys reckon is good without losing any power ofcoarse??

2.5 is to big for an unopened 1.6L engine that is daily driven. If its not daily driven and your in the the power band rev range all day every day.. i.e 7k + for the b16 then 2.5 inch is ok..

Dont forget 2.5inch will make the exhaust sound diff to 2.25

i would go headers 1st
then save for a good cat and cat back exhaust

and dont buy cheap fake shit either

get intake, than headers than exhaust

cheap fake stuff is ok as long as you dont mind replacing it later on if it breaks/cracks lol ... depends how cheap it is i guess hahaha

but nothing beats quality performance parts =)

Either way, change both in the future if you want a performance upgrade. The exhaust is usally the first change as it sounds great and peopel can see where you have spent you money

thanx guys, i think im gonna go 2.25 catback for now then in a few weeks time ill get some headers and oh yeah i already have an intake, if i was to put in some cams and a aftermarket ecu later on would i have to go 2.5" or would 2.25" be allrite??

2 1/2 inch pipe is usally cheaper that 2 1/4

just go 2 inch most n/a 6cyl cars only run 2.5-3 at max

2" or 2.25"

Intake, then headers, then high-flow cat & exhaust.

I'd go 60mm for your B16, or 2.25inch.

Get decent headers, but cat back is a catback - just a pipe that follows the same path of stock exhaust. Just make sure it is mandrel bent and I suppose lighter is better.

Didn't really want to create another exhaust thread so thought I'd use this one to ask my question.
I'm looking to buy an S12 Xforce twinloop, but they don't have it in 2.25 only 2.5 and no longer make a catback to fit DC2/4. Would it be worth getting the Xforce twinloop and getting a custom catback? If not, what is an affordable but good brand to go with? Also is the 2.5 going to mean I will lose power?

Correct me if i'm wrong but the 2.5 shouldn't make u loose power. The note will be deeper and maybe dronier on the freeways.

Oh k, thanks.

What about the catback issue? Apparently Xforce can't sell me one, am I going to be wasting my money if I go for a custom one?

Just look for other reputable brands. There are plenty out there

True, probably rather spend a bit more money for something good anyway.
Cheers.

2.25" is best for a B16 with standard cams. They have no low down torque as it is. If you go too large in piping size you disrupt the scavenging effect in the lower rpm which results in less torque down low.
Which is what you want to improve in a street car.

Mines a b18 though.. Same story? A fair few people seem to have done the 2.5" on an Integra

2.5" is fine for a B18.
