Oil leak from filter - L15A

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone else has had an oil leak from around the oil filter. I have a 2007 Jazz VTi-S.

I bought the car new and have since done 3 oil filter changes myself.

1st one in 2008, genuine filter and no oil leak. 2nd one in 2009, ryco filter started leaking after about 3000km. I put up with the leak until the 3rd one was due in April 2010. I used a genuine filter and it is also leaking. The oil filters do not appear to be sealing properly and are not being done up too tight or too loose. I have been changing my own oil for over 25 years and have never struck this problem before.

Anyone have any clues?

When you do up the filter, it should gradually tighten. If you have a filter where it suddenly goes from loose to tight and you are unable to tighten anymore, then the metal piece in the middle of the filter where the threads are is not deep enough (out of spec) or the rubber o-ring on the edge of the filter is too deep in the filter ridge. Junk that filter and try a new one. I have come across 2 filters out of a batch of 8 with this problem.
