hey guys,
just did a track day on tuesday and was running in the mid to high 1.16s most of the day.
My mods list is:
Cams
Cam gears
Port & polish
I/H/E
35mm lowered springs front and rear
17x7in rims
street tyres on 40psi front and 30psi rear
adjustable 22mm rear swaybar
Im just curious as to what others have been running with similar mods on a similar can (dc2 vtir)
Thanks guys
P.s My quickest time was 1.16.59.

You can go quicker I'm sure. WP is a great track where driver experience can affect times greatly.
What car , engine, brand tyres, ?
1:16 sounds slwo for the mod list.

Car is mentioned in his post.
First time at WP, can't expect everyone to go fast on their first go. :)

That's quick for your first time mate! Well done :D
Probs your biggest let down would be the 17 inch wheels, and springs are a bit 'low'. The more you go, the faster you'll get. Keep it up.

40 psi is too high for street tyres... should lower it down to about 30-32

I disagree. It depends when he checked them. If it was before he started a session chances are they got even higher. If it was after a session I'd drop the fronts by 2 psi and raise the rears by 4psi and then check again after the next session. Street tyres require higher pressure as they have softer sidewalls than semi slicks. Keeping pressures up reduces tyre flex.
40psi is fine for street tyres when HOT. I would question why the rears were so much less than the fronts. If anything there would be greater heat fluctuation with the fronts so they should start lower and build with temperature.
It's not what you start with, but what you end up with during optimal running. This will change depending on ambient and track temps. There are too many variables to just say X psi.
Tyre pressures can make the world of difference to your lap times. After a sessions the first thing I do is check tyre pressures. That way you can gauge what you should start with on cold tyres. Street tyres would change anywhere up to 4-6psi depending on ambient and track temps.

Nah, I would have gone 40psi all round cold. Street tyres need higher tyre pressure on the track because their sidewalls are very soft, unlike semi slicks.

Hey Joe,
It's me, Eddie with the DC5.
Good thing i told you to pump your psi to 40. Didn't realise you only pumped the front though :) you were shredding your tires!
1:16 is great for your first time. Your times will only get better from here on.
Send me a pm for when you plan to go next, and i might come with.

when my street tyres were on 36psi cold, the tyres didnt wear evenly as they were about 41psi after a session. The bloke that works as a mechanic in wakefield (also a professional driver) suggested that i deflate them to 30psi as it was a hot day and the tyre then began wearing evenly.

When I had mine at 33 psi cold, the shoulders wore out within 2 sessions. The next time I went with fresh tyres, I used 40 psi and the tyres wore evenly. I'm still using that same set of tyres today. The weight of the car also affects tyre wear. At 33 psi cold, the tyres were rolling onto the shoulder tread and wearing it out every time I took a corner because my car was fat and heavy.

I aim for 40psi hot for street tyres. You would rather go out at a higher psi as oppose to low psi which can damage the tyres.

hey guys, thanks for all the feedback.
really appreciated, my tire pressure were 40psi cold and as for the car being too low its 35mm lower which is the legal limit i believe.
ill be going back soon and then ill invest in a set of semis in 205/50/50 size on the standard fat fives which are 6 inch wide :)

you might want to invest a set of 15x7 if you wanna improve your laptime
they fit 205 50 alot better
