well wen i get off my ass im gona make a start at putting my USDM D16a6 cam in my D15b7 ...

the heads are the same so its a direct bolt on ... just needs either a Y8 cam gear or a adjustable cam gear to set at 3 degrees retarded

1. remove ignition leads 1+2 and use the dipstick to set cyl-1 at top and cyl-2 at bottom to find TDC
2. remove rocker cover
3. remove camgear cover
4. remove head assembly
5. remove dizzy
6. remove D15b7 cam
7. lube up and place in D16a6 cam
8. install Bisimoto Camgear + loop timing belt back on
9. re-install everything else
10. set cam gear to 3 degrees retarded
let car idle for 10min ... than drive at low revs for 10mins

am i forgetting anything? will i have to keep tension on the timing belt? will i need to do the timing again after i install the cam?

i would spin the motor by hand before starting to make sure you have not done anything wrong

I adjust the valve lash immediately after a cam install. The new cam should have different lift to the old one, and your clearances will be different. Easy enough to do, just make sure the engine is cold, and double check the clearances after adjusting.

so when we changed the tooth ... we did it in the wrong direction ... so the timing belt jumped off ... the crank and cam are still in line with eachother ... but we have to take the timing belt off and reset it at the right spot

arg ... small job just turned into an all day job =/

if the belt did slip and the cam and crank went out of alignment ... would it have damaged the engine? ... it didnt really run like this ... it just sorta tried to start but conked out

im really hoping to get a freind to help me reset the timing belt and start again with aligning the cam

i have no idea im just posting to ask why did you retard it by 3 degrees? i have no idea at all what it would be set for im just asking what this would do and why would you do it with this cam

you cant run the D16a6 cam on stock D15b7 cam settings ... it has to be rotated 1 + 1/2 teeth retard for it to run properly ... it will just bog otherwise

another option is to run it with a D16y7 cam gear - or try and tune it out using the dizzy ... but the adjustable cam gear is the best way to go

should be getting it sorted out on tuesday ... will let you all know how it goes

as far as i know im the only one in australia to do this swap ... would love to know if anyone else out there has done it
