Hey guys just wondering if there are any DIY methods to check if the fuel sensor is working properly?

My fuel gauge cant be right ive driven like 200km and my gauge shows pretty much empty and no I don't fang it everywhere or anywhere for that matter lols I actually drive like a granny

A trip to la perouse knocked a fair bit off my tank where as for my friend's EG you couldnt see any difference at all, and we didnt speed at all, i didnt thrash it at all, I never do.

I'm filling up 98 octane atm if that makes any difference, dual carb EG civic.

Now my dilemma is that when the guage hits empty i can drive for quite a while but ive never seen the fuel light come on and it makes me a bit nervous so i just fill up again, its becoming a hassle to fill up continuously and not know the correct amount of fuel thats in my tank :(

Just wondering if anyone knows how to check the fuel sensor themselves or any methods to see if the fuel light works or anything that can give some insight to my problem :(

thanks alot guys

common problem for tank not to light up and gauge level to not work on EG's

u can always reset your odometer to 0000 when u refill the car. car should be safe to travel a good 400km before u need to refill.(pending on how u drive)
thats what ive been doing since my light doesn't come on either

if u really want to do this then your gonna have to get into your fuel tank and check if your resistor has blown as thats why ur light aint turning on.
and for your gauge not working properly, your fuel levle sensor in the tank is probably not mounted correctly or is just broken after old age thats why its giving u odd readings.

hope that helps

^^ LOL,keen to sell...

I live 60k's from work, takes 1hr of motorway and 70km zone driving and I can drive to work with that light on the whole time.

If U want to get confidence with that,1/2 fill a gerry can of fuel and drive ya car until it runs outta petrol.Set the odometer to 0 when the fuel light comes on and check the time to see how long it takes in time too.

Everyone freaks out when that light comes on but U can drive for an hour with it on.

hahaha yeah thanks +1 :)
I guess from now on I'll drive up to 400km n fill up when it gets around there
does it matter if its 98 octane or regular unleaded? for twin carb

i have a eg 1.3l carb. someweeks i pull 500 depending on how i drive.
regardless of your petrol if u keep the revs low then 400 is easy.

is there a better fuel preference for carbs though?

im pretty sure the carbied EG's dont come with the feature of low level fuel light.

remove your rear seat and check on top of the fuel tank. From memory if you have 3 wires going to the sender you have an indicator light. if you dont then you'll have 2 wires.

here are the steps to checking your fuel level sender as well as the gauge
