View Full Version : Car indicators
Do indicators in Australia HAVE to blink yellow?
Like.. in America, they blink red. Are we allowed that? Or it strictly has to be amber?

To be roadworthy they need to be amber.
Doesnt matter if its a covered lens or coloured bulb. Has to be amber.
Thanks for the quick reply =]

i rkn diff colour indicators look gross...
Being a non conformist is cool and all, but i wouldn't mess with communicative lights
I've seen a bomb around my area which, instead of having actual indicators, just has the backlights flash in succession.
ooo | N. Plate here | ooo <--- Lights
It goes:
oo1 | N. Plate here | ooo
o2o | N. Plate here | ooo
3oo | N. Plate here | ooo
Numbers indicating the order in which the lights flash if the car was indicating a turn to the right.

when you go to the usa you realise why having red indication is retarded, especially when the person in front of you is dropping back gears and braking everynow and a gain whilst indicating
and on most trucks there its the worst as it uses the braking ability of the whole lens to indicate lol
they have to blink in a correct relay, be amber, meet the angle requirements of adr, love seeing defection notices on s13s and other imports that miss the side indicators when in doubt have 6 on the car two in front, one on either side and two at the rear
best indication I see now is on the new fleet of trucks being imported where when they Indicate it goes >1>2>3>4 (minus the numbers but the amber led arrows moving in that order, hilarious lol)

All indicators and headlights fitted have to comply with ADRs. On most they actually have the details molded into the plastic of the ADR it complies with. So technically its illegal to swap a headlight onto your car that wasn't complied to ADRs (example US lights)
If you look at ADRs, indicators have to be a specific shade of amber from memory too
