hey guys, im in a massive dilemma on which wheel and tyre sizes to choose:
195/50r15
more comfort
supposedly better performance
ek9s came with 15'' rims stock (although 195/55)
205/40r16
more for looks
pothole = buckled rims
not sure about performance
205/45r16
above with more sidewall to protect from potholes
doesnt look as good cus of thicker sidewall (IMO)
just a bit of history, i was running 17x7, 205/40r17 and i hated it to the guts. i sold them and im back to my steelies now, it rides so much better much more comfy.
at first i was gonna get the 205/40 on 16s for the looks, but im leaning towards 195/50r15s now.
what do you guys think???!?!? any pics would be VERY helpful

i just put new rims on my car last monday,195/50/15s and they came up gr8,as u say potholes are always an issue thats y i never go less than a 50 profile, they dont wear out as quick and cost less to replace the rubber, just my opinion...

hey nice EJ8, man. real clean.
16'' tyres are damn cheap for a decent all rounder- i use KU31 (i'm only saying, coz i used to use 18'' on my last car)
205/40/16 (i think) performance is excellent

i think youre is 205/45 or even 205/50 dude, theres no way 205/40 would have that thick of a sidewall
i could be wrong tho

funny that you say you had 17/205/40 i have them on my rears atm, but i have 17/215/40 on the front.
they are too wide and the right tire rubs on the guard while going over bumps, etc.
i would say if your car is lowered some what go for 16"s

IMO 195/50/15.
Then you can get Kumho KU31's for $99 each. Great tyres for performance, and I think 195's tuck in better on the guards if you dump the car. Perform well also.

well my front lip is only about 5cm off the ground at the moment. but im not sure with 16''s cus as i wrote above id have to go 205/45 to minimise risk of pothole damage, but for some reason it just doesnt look right. and tires are more exxy

Thanks Daan , anzai, I don't own this one anymore, but it was a blast to have in the short time I had it.
I was paying ~$125 per corner for 195/50/15 for Potenza RE001, which is not a bad price for a bang for your buck street performance tyre.

I went from my stock 14 inch steelies (with Michelin XM1s 175/65/14) to some Honda EM1 15s on Michelin Pilot Preceda (195/50/15) and they are fantastic. The rims originally came with a 55 profile from the factory, but when getting new tyres the 50 profile was a bit cheaper and looks better too. Has heap more grip and firms the ride up a touch too (still have stock suspension lol) And can look pretty decent too
