Engine problem???

Just recently ive noticed that when driving the gear sort of lags or pauses, sounds normal but i just wanted to know why its lagging, feels like the engine loses power then regains it. It happens quite alot now. Could it be the spark plugs, timing belt or crankshaft? Has anyone had this problem before. , this engine's done about 70k and its just been fitted with a new gearbox.

My D16Y1 is kinda like that, and I just figured it was due to it being a SOHC D-series - only really makes any worthy power when you're doing 4000-7000 RPM.

Nah mines not like that, the power kicks in at the beginning of the gear but just rarely it loses out pauses and lags, feels like im pressuring something. Ive researched a bit, most people say its a result of old sparkplugs and a clogged fuel filter. Im gunna get them changed and see how it goes

Check your dizzy and spark plug leads as well.
