Hi All,

Just after some opinions, do you think 170,000 kms is much for a b16a2. i know it depends how its been treated but what do these motors usually last too?
Thanks:wave:

they will last depending how well you maintain it.

170,000Kms is fair, not the best but it aint great. plus its from an EK4 im assuming? it should last to well over 250,000KMs if every service is carried out

MY B16a2 has 177,000 on the clock and pulls as strongly as ever. It was owned by a mature owner until 160,000Km. I've owned it since and even though I VTEC it a bit, most of the time i treat it well and always drive under 3000rpm until it's fully warmed up. Furthermore, i service it every 5000km with synthetic oil.

All you have to do is look at the previous owner. Are they a 20 something hoon, or a 40 something housewife? Does it have service history or not? If it doesn't have both, i wouldn't buy it. But thats me and i'm pretty picky.

Sorry MWAKU, but despite ur sexy avatar, i disagree with you. 170,000km on a well kept B16a is about middle age IMO. If it's taken care of, a good b16a will go well past the 300,000km mark. I've even seen an EK4 with 400,000km on the clock which still goes hard.

250,000-300,000 with no problems easily if you maintain it well. If you're concerned then do a compression test and check to ensure the major service (timing belt etc) has been done at some point.

Stock B16A makes about 220-225 compression reading per cylinder. 200 more or less is healthy and especially make sure that there's no major variation between the readings.

Get a comp test just to be safe! Will show up HG problems as well :)

Just got my Boosted JDM B16A (1993) with about 100-120 on the clock tested coze I drive her hard...

238 on all 4 cylinder

That’s due to over maintaining on my part but the end result speaks wounders for maintains

comp test is not accurate, get a leak down test.

Yeh that's right as VTec1987 pointed out, perform a leak down test, that will solve any cylinder leakage problems, but make sure when you're doing a leak down test, the cylinder being tested must be placed at top dead center. The piston must be at the top of its travel. The intake and exhaust valves must be closed. If the cylinder is not at top dead center, air escaping past an open valve will give a false reading.
