don't know what is the right intake to use for my dc2r. preferably after a CAI not an SRI. i know mugen is said to be "the best" but i did not want to get the mugen. was hoping you guys had some suggestions and the benefits of the different systems... my only mods are tein coilovers, camber arms, toda lightened flywheel, and rear sway.

thanks guys

what about AEM. V1 Cold Ait Intake.?
But dont go the V2 AEM CAI. The tech guru from AEM told me the V2 doesnt work well for the ITR motor. The B18C5 they use has a different intake wave frequency to which they are yet to work out.

Id suggest ARC, its probalby the one of the top 3 in my opinion. The best is no air filter at all:) but yeah not good for car i guess.

This is a dyno of the comptech vs mugen! on stock DC2 ITR

Mugen in blue, comptech in red!

Why pay more for the mugen?

tanghy
23-12-2004, 03:06 PM
you want the mugen for the thorttle response which can never be measured on the dyno

The comptech looks quite impressive looking at that graph
Looks like a better value option

Possibly not as reliable as mugen tho??

tanghy
23-12-2004, 05:43 PM
there is no reliablity issue with intakes
it's a matter of throttle response which cannot be measured

Andrew, can you honestly say that if you had one of the two intakes installed under your bonnet (not knowing which one was attached) would you be able to determine which one was being used ?

I think the yanks will still say the mugen is better :D - the comptech is a "cheaper alternative"

In my mind there is no doubt, the mugen is one top intake and worth its price.

there is an article comparing some of the more popular intakes (i think it is US brand only)

VARIOUS INTAKES COMPARED- THE ARTICLES (http://www.tprmag.com/issue/1/1_intakes.shtml)

THE RESULTS (http://www.tprmag.com/issue/1/sr-results.shtml)

have a read at all the articles.. and how the dyno was conducted... hope it is helpful :D

Everyone is talking about iceboxes and mugens and other stuff, well i cant really say anything good or bad about them coz ive never had exp with them, only with AEM, and I will assume that others are good on the old pocket $$$.
But compare AEM vs ARC in my DC2R currently, and ARC is by by far the best out of the two, there is a noticable difference.Awesome and sounds like a jet :)

If the AEM V2 was the one used, i mentioned earlier that the V2 CAI does not work well with the B18c5/7 engines - according to AEM.

is the ARC an airbox? cai? sri? as good as the mugen?

Save your money.
The ARC airbox is absolute junk.

hey adrian, so above all else u definately recommend the mugen? by far the best? any other intake come close?

TODA AU

My personal favorite for the DC2R & DC5R is the Injen CAI
You get the same throttle response as you do with the Mugen box.
Plus you get quite a bit more power at half the price.
So the bang for bucks is certainly better...

Another bonus of the CAI pipe type intakes is the low end torque gains.
Generally better than the box type systems.
Down side is legal issues & noise...
Personally I just love the sound, but I may not be part of the moral majority

If you're interested, we'll have both Injen's in stock again early next year.

so what do u use in yr toda race ek?

MURCHO

merry christmas people!
so adrian u would say u rate the injen over mugen regardless or price? more torque and more top end?

thanks mate

I thought AEM v2 gives 18.5hp max

I am using HKS racing suction ( cold air intake system ). 5kw more than factory air box with spoon filter with cold air duct from bumper.

TODA AU

so what do u use in yr toda race ek?

Currently we're using the MUGEN intake as it is arguably the best & the results are very good.
However, at over 140kw @ wheels, a problem exists with resonance in lid.
(That is it makes more power with the lid off - MUGEN EK Civic air-box - Not Integra)
We're going to change the set-up on the civic to a TODA works head & sports injection with a custom shroud / airbox in the coming months.
The reason I like the Injen CAI intakes is the performance for dollar they offer.
Cheers

Adrian

IMO any SRI that uses the Venturi (sp?) effect to induct air into the motor works just as good if not better than a generic short ram. That's why I like the Top fuel/J's racing intake.

yeah!! I love the shape of J's racing intake. Made of carbon fibre. Very Nice. But i dun know the performance. Does anyone know the performance of this intake??
