Hi All,

Just want to gauge on people's opinion on whether I should take my 96 Ek1 to a Honda dealership for a 200,000km service (using genuine parts) or should I just head to a local garage for them to do it?

Also what are the parts and areas involved in a 200,000km service?

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers

depends, it's a once off thing, if I had my time over again when it was my 200,000 I would've gone to Honda

as it'll need:

timing belt
tensioner pulley
cam and crank seals
water pump (they don't say to do it add it in, easy to get to)
replace valve cover gasket (has to come off anyhow)
a bottle of power steering fluid
oil
oem Honda oil filter
oem Honda coolant

they'll prob also sting you for:
spark plugs
air filter element
fuel filter
brake flush
clutch flush

good time to check:
drive shaft boots for leaks
sump for leaks
rear main seal area for leaks
clutch master cylinder in cabin for leaks
suspension bushings (top of my head rear trailing arm bushes)
radiator for leaks/fatigue, very least check the cooling systems pressure (top tank blew on mine around 220,000)
for tappet noise

Thanks for the heads up and the list of things they'll be looking at.

Just called Collins Honda and the damage for the service is around $1300! Wow... makes me wonder if I should do it or just get a new ride...

I would hope that the timing belt would already be done. Most belts are due to be changed on the shy side of 150,000kms. At which time the tensioner is usually replaced, as well as the water pump.

book on eks doesnt say for it to be changed that soon Steve, and theyre dirt cheap anyhow

1300 isnt too bad at all, keeps it running well and is prob a once off for most owners, shit to do a clutch and flywheel job is nearly that much

I wouldn't personally run a rubber belt to 200,000kms with an interference engine.

they get changed at 100,000, then again at 200,000...

well I did mine at that, makes sense, worst prob with them is that they never had chains, but the factor of safety will see them clear 200,000ks

watched a honda city make 260,000ks with nothing ever really being replaced apart from oil and filters, when the suspension was shot he put wood in the springs to prop it up, he filled the engine's cooling system from new pretty much with normal tap water, never replaced a lead, hose, belt of any kind, hell he'd sand paper the spark plugs this guy was sooooo tight lol. By the time it was ready to be scrapped (as the fuel it ran on stopped production shy after 2001 and the lead replacement petrol didn't run well at all) it had no rust, the red was still in good nick as he buffed it monthly, dash was excellent, interior was perfect. Really all it needed was a ife unleaded engine and new suspension, not a damn thing else broke on it in it's life of service lol

Woah...What a Tight guy....lol Wood in the springs? hmm never thought of that...but seriously if you keep your car garaged, cleaned, serviced on time pretty much the car will run forever...apart from rubber bushes and the expendable items.
