Hey Guys,

Just a quick question for those of you who have had there s2k since it was pretty mutch born.

Have you felt a decrease in power/ torque and that like new tightness as your s2000 has aged a bit.

I ask this question as i am buying my first one and it seems like at the moment in my price range of 23-27k there seems to be only 99 or 00 Models with Just over 100 000kms on them. Of course log books for proof of a regular servicing helps but i am very padantic about my cars.

Please dont flame me, im am merely new to the s2000 community and have no guidence other than what is on this website in regards to buying one.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

And on another note, does any one know any history or the owner of this car:

Pretty reliable engines, but over on the US forums people have reported needing to replace the timing chain tensioner. So you might want to look for that for cars over 100,000kms

how long you been looking for a GPW?

good luck with the search. and I'm sure you know you'll pay a premium for a decent condition one.

I looked for around 4-5 months, religiously checking carsales every couple of hours (ease of iPhones, lol). I was dead set on white and hated NFR.

however the ideal NFR turned up on s2ki and it was an offer I couldn't refuse. I took the plunge and gave up on my GPW aspirations.

3 months down the track, and I've fallen head over heels for NFR. couldn't give a sh*t about GPW now (though it still looks good)

the S is one of those looks good in any colour cars. with the current state of the market and quality of cars available, unless you've got all the patience in the world to wait, buy the car, not the colour. you'll end up loving whatever colour you get.

my 2c.

Thanks for the insight

Ive had interest for the past 2 months but ive only sold my EK this month. There was a decent GPW for 25k of a mates mate but i didnt have the money then.

Im sure it will be a nice car regardless of colour but red or silverstone dont appeal to me as much as others. Montecarlo blue and black id consider.

Ive got another car to drive atm so ill be patient and wait for a 00-01 GPW w/ red interior to pop up. Im a fussy buyer lol

haha no probs.

I was about to buy a white one in QLD, an s2ki member offered to check it out for me and it seemed pretty good. had a prof. inspection done, and it showed quite a few broken mounts etc (on a 70,000km car). easily fixed, but who knows what's going on internally..

but, if you do find the perfect white car, you'll absolutely love it. g'luck with the search

Went and saw the s2000 as mentioned in first post last night. Evidence of a crash history, extreem ware to ass bolsters, a little rattle in the roof, sighn of a repair in soft top, dirty engine oil, dark clutch fluid, shitloads of clutchbuzz, on a quick shift a very sharp leap to the right, the guy told me he just replaced the clutch and that was bullshit as i know what a new clutch feels like, and the worst thing at all is he did not know anything about the car. Would not buy the car for $20k, heads up to future enqueries with this car. Thanks Guys

oh damn, this is why P platers have less credibility. You can usually tell if they are a true car enthusiast or not

Have you seen this (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8771553&__sid=121E3C32A096&__Qpb=true&__No=0&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32 |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294964924%20898&seot=1&Cr=0&__Nne=15&trecs=44&silo=1011) black one for cheap? I want to check it out tomorrow but his number doesnt show up on carsales when you enter in the code. Wentworthville is only 5 mins away from mine

Another engine "problem" is from a misshifting into too low a gear and and causing a mechanical over-rev. Usually the retainers crack and over time they *might* let go and drop a valve into the engine. Usually happens only on the intake side for the F20C's. The F22C's came with fatter/stronger retainers and its a common upgrade.

This has happened only to one Aussie that I know of (not personally) but in the states there has been a handful of cases - there might be more that has had this happen but I am not omniscient.

If anything, I think their biggest problems include:
1: owners not watching their oil levels as most tend to burn oil in between services - not sure how this will affect the engine in the long term but probably not good.

2: CV cups/spiders wearing out and causing a horrible vibration (roughly $0-$200 fix)

3: Clutch master cylinder leaking ($500-ish fix?. I know one guy that paid around that much at Hanny's including labour and parts).

4: Going from the above problem gears are ground and tranny fluid is not replaced often enough and this builds up the wear in the synchros.

Again none of these problems will really be a problem if the S2000 has had a knowledgeable and/or rich owner and the car has solid service history aka stamped every 10,000kms at the least.

im a p plater lol
my clutch master was leaking aswell at about 120xxxkms. cost me $320 FOR A BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT and a tranny and diff oil change..much cheaper then 500?
i do a oil change and new filter every 5000kms, and a coolent flush every 10,000. i did a fuel filter change like 20,000kms ago aswell. my cars now 145,000..it was on 118,000 exactly 1 year ago this day wen i brought it.
Usually at 120,000kms you need to get a valve adjusment done as this creates a new noise in the engine bay but thats about it. that cost me 180 from honda in essendon but they ended doing for only 130 bcuz they made me wait an extra hour due to a mechanic hurting himself or something lol.
wise words?? CHECK OIL everytime u go to fill up ur petrol and u will be fine :), its a healthy habit.

Check oil when cold.

$500 was including slave cylinder too I think and a service so I'm not sure how much it cost in total. But budget that much and you should be right lol
