I haven't posted a build thread on here yet and I have no idea why.
This is a recap of what has been happening with my car until today :).

2009 was a tough year for me and many problems came up which prevented me from buying a car. My parents offered to buy me a brand new car but after a long talk I told them I'd much prefer to have that money put into savings for me in the future. To put things into a summary, I wanted to buy my first car with my own money because I really thought that it would be something big for me and I was right.

So the search began, hunting everywhere for 'the right car'.
I wanted something
-Stock
-That needed a fair bit of work because I wanted to learn how to fix a car
-Most importantly something that felt right

After some struggles especially after my good friend Sina (woosh) had a civic for sale for a very low price I gave up. I decided to be very patient and to just sit back and wait.

I posted a thread here that I wanted a car up to the price of $2000 and hoped for the best.
http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/showthread.php?t=21151

A day later a reply from Aytac (tiksie) found me 'that right car'.

Honda Civic Eg Gl.
It started first go and after a slightly thorough inspection with Tim (my mechanic friend), it looked very decent mechanically. The clutch had seen better days and apart from that It seemed very decent.
The interior was very close to immaculate, a bit of wear on the drivers side inside panel near the window from the sun and a broken headrest where nothing that could put me off.
Now, the body had a few dings, the panels didn't exactly line up and the paint did look like it had a few jealous encounters from the past with the good old friend 'the key'.

I just had to have it and everything about it just felt right.
Handed over the money and signed the papers and an hour later it was at home.

So this is it, the beginning of my car diary.
I have no set plans for the car apart from just doing things as they come, this is all about learning and having fun and making the most of my first car. I still stand by the statement of 'I will never sell my first car'.

So here it is on the first day of my ownership.
The 22/12/09
I Apologize for the shakey/ bad quality photos. Excitement is all I can say.

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/dee6bf4f.jpg

For some reason we wanted to take off the front bumper, I wanted to get started on fixing the car straight away.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/24dc26d1.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/bf5d76df.jpg

I didn't end up fixing anything because I was to excited to look at every little bit of the car, so in the garage it went.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/67efdc96.jpg

It was then when I was going to go up stairs and go sleep but I decided to close the garage door and just sit in the car and think about what I wanted to do with it, what my plans where for her.
I was basically having a conversation with her about what she would look like and what I wanted to do with her.
I ended up falling asleep and waking up about 4 hours later.

I knew that she was the right car and all the waiting and troubles where worth it because I finally had my dream car sitting in my garage.

So it starts here. I can't wait to go back to this post in a year and see what the car looks like or what my feelings are towards it.

Thank you for reading my introduction to a build thread that I hope you enjoy for a long time to come.

I was told not to drive the car because my oil level was very low but stupidly I didn't listen because I was to excited to learn manual. Being completely broke and not wanting to ask my parents for money also might have contributed to me not putting in some more oil.
My parking lot is about 50x50 metres and all that I would do is go up and down apart from two times when I decided to rev the crap out of it to 'test the sound'.

On the 7th of January I saw that my neighbor *with the civic* was working on a car and I decided to finally go up to him and introduce myself. I'm sort of shy and yeh...
He was really awesome and I ended up helping him fit some coilovers.
All he said was 'man you have a lot of work to do but you are going to enjoy it and are going to learn a lot, heres a spray can and tape. Might as well start of with making your steelies look a little bit better'.
So they went from this
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/67b04104.jpg

to this

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/995ae02a.jpg

I wanted to take my muffler off and he chucked me a tool and laughed and was like do it then.

This is when I did something stupid, I sort of forgot that my oil level was low.

The car smoked the whole parking lot up and my idling was very low, I didn't think of it as anything so I just parked it in the garage and left it for another day.

This was the day I would go back to for me to realise that I have to take care of my car no matter what.

So I call my friend Tim, first he swore at me and called me an idiot and said that he will be over at my house the next day.
My uncle came over that night and checked out the car and when he saw how low the oil was he ran to Woolworths because it was the only store open and then came back and just said, 'I hope you haven't been driving it'.
He taught me how to poor in oil, yeh I didn't exactly know how much to poor in and all that but he taught me :).

So the oil level was much better.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/f45c5746.jpg

The next day Tim came over and reversed the car out of the garage and it stalled. He was like I swear it wasn't my fault. You had to literally rev the car to about 2000 to keep it alive not to mention the amount of smoke the car was producing. He thought it was my head gasket because the spark plugs where covered in oil.
He then called me later that night and told me not to worry because all the car needed was a good service.
He told me to buy
-spark plugs
-oil filter
and anything else that was at a low level.

He told me to do nothing else to the car and to just push it if I needed to take it out of the garage.
Well I did do something else to the car a couple of days later but I'm sure that Tim wouldn't have minded.

Some photos of the car before it had any work done to it.

The photos are to mainly document exactly what the car looked like before I had changed anything. The photos where taken prior to the above posts.

So here are a few photos which show my car as I bought it.

So Sn33ky came over on the 21-01-10, I didn't have money to get all the fluids that I need so the car sat in the garage for a bit.

I grabbed some e34 hub caps of him.
They where to big so straight away I did this.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/97f8edd4.jpg

I was left with these
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/30ae332b.jpg

And I wanted these
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/54e4abc3.jpg

So I got inpatient and did this
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/df68a73b.jpg

And was left with this
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/e2772452.jpg

So I test fitted it like this
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/eba91d60.jpg

So now they will sit on the middle of my steelies after I get some silicone like this

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/06432f56.jpg

Why bmw? Because it was either this car or an e30 so I wanted best of both worlds.

The 23rd of January marked the jdmst swap meet.

I walked up to jdmyard and had an awesome talk with Yonas who throughout the day taught me a lot and let me have a close look at his eg. Thanks Yonas for looking after me after everyone left and for being great help with everything.

I grabbed some goodies while I was there.

On the 30th of January I had enough money to buy myself some fluids and spark plugs that I needed to service the car.
I headed down to my local car supply shop and purchased a few things.

I was told that I didn't buy enough of certain fluids to do a complete flush but Tim said I didn't need to as the other fluids looked pretty fresh and the papers I have said the car was serviced not that long ago.

This is where I'm getting up to date with the process.

Yesterday, it was time to bring my baby back to life.

This was such a great learning experience, I really did learn a lot. By this I mean I can do the service myself next time but it's awesome to just chill with your best mate and slowly work on your car.
So once again Tim, thank you for everything.

Pushing the car
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/e959d18c.jpg

Jacking the car up
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/ad3f2f2f.jpg

Luckily no one was under the car when this happened because the jack broke.
The car just went booooom.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/34febc74.jpg

I called my neighbor and he was 30 seconds away from home and he lent us two jacks and some bricks. What a legend :).

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/c2f19ca8.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/58b8357b.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/90549f3a.jpg

Because I don't have that many tools, the word compromise came up a lot
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/ce66623a.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/8e47e376.jpg

Out with the old
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/24b55ef5.jpg

In with the new
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/711a1b6e.jpg

So after filling up all the fluid levels and changing the spark plugs it was time to clutch start the car.

This picture as you can see shows that the indicator is on.
A sign of life :).

If you have read or looked at the previous posts you must have seen the 'FIX ME' stickers.
I got them made by 3am who makes custom vinyl stickers and he is a member on here, so if you ever have a sticker need he is your man.
Received the stickers the day after my payment was made and the quality is awesome.
The stickers have been placed on all the imperfections that will be fixed over time.
The reasoning behind the stickers is so that in the future it will provide me with an awesome before and after picture. In all honestly I think it looks 'cool'. I am a bit worried that the blue slip people will be a bit ehhhhh, when they see it.

Enough talk, more pics

A receipt book or something similar is a great way to keep track of your expenses. I use something like this, I would recommend everyone to keep something like this as it keeps track of everything you pay for whether it's an oil filter or even how much you payed for a wheel alignment.

Just a quick update.
So as I mentioned before I was inspired to buy this car after watching my neighbor build his ground up.
Well I sort of just watched him from my window secretly, he knew me ever since I was little because his mum had a watch shop near my primary school and we use to go there to get our stuff fixed.

Well for all his help and inspiration I decided to buy him something he wanted for his car that he was jealous off that I had them.
I grabbed him some mudflaps. lol.

Sorry for the slightly irrelevant post, but in all seriousness he's a great neighbor and is great help.

Yesterday night I was having a very bad time going to sleep because of a few problems so I went to my car and I just sat in it, thinking about a few things and during doing that I forgot that my bike was behind the car like this.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/55d61c6a.jpg

I really felt like driving because I have really gotten the hang of manual, first to reverse gear of course and it just makes me feel so free.

So I reversed and all I heard was BOOOOMMMM!.
I rammed into my bike :(.
So this happened.

This makes me so happy that my body is not immaculate, I'm a learner driver and I will make mistakes like this so fixing the body is something that will have attention brought to it later.

But the scar did get a band aid.

Accidentally did this
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/4c3a0ebd.jpg

So as you can see I'm slowly cleaning my interior.
My plans are to
-Dye that carpets black
-Steam and clean everything
-Re trim the door trim thing (fabric bit)
-New wooden shelf thing for the boot trimmed in black carpet
-New bolts and what not

The interior cleaning may have to be put on hold until this weekend because school isn't leaving me that much time to work on the car.

Slow and steady, I'm having great fun and am learning a lot about my car just by taking apart every bolt and putting it back just so that I can know how everything works. Finding things in the car also gives you an idea of it's history which I'm liking.
Hopefully I find some coins under the back seats. Wish me luck

Short update, not sure if it's worthy to the other members but I like it :).

You may have spotted my little friend in the other photos, well the collection has grown even more. These are the only toys and so on I will put in my car and they will just stay in this space.

Sorry for the bad quality photos.
I will try to find my usb for my digital camera asap.

Yesterday was a sad day :(.

I stuffed up again, I was practicing, I've never used my phone while driving but *someone* kept calling me and I was stressing out and at the same time, reversing.

Boom! The rear left side of my car was hanging of a concrete ledge and all I heard was a scrape, I quickly pulled into 1st and drove off the little ledge thing and checked the bottom of the car and all I could see was that the bottom of the control arm was what scraped the concrete.
Well the concrete scraped my control arm.

Drove the car and nothing felt wrong so a big sigh of relief but I still need to jack the car up and check 100%. Visually the control arm has no other damage. Everything also feels sturdy.
Lesson learned, never use a phone while driving in any situation.

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/545607ff.jpg

Ps. I got really, really scared. I almost cried lol.
Going to need to apologize somehow, I'm thinking all of my next pay being put towards the car would be a great way to say sorry.

I don't have a car jack so I've been avoiding putting this bastard of a bolt in.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/car/b9ae3ade.jpg

But I was sick of the little leaks coming from there so I decided that I would put the bolts back on today.

I'm going to be re trimming the rear seats, fabric choice has not been decided yet, though I'm leaning towards some form of suede, I'll also be doing the door trim in something similar.

Can't wait to rip out the carpet and front seats and get to some serious cleaning.

But I got out of hand and pretty much stripped everything since I wanted to do it properly or not at all.
Here are the progress pics.

Sorry about the bad quality photos once again, I'm going to get the standard back up again as soon as I can find my cable.

Everything was taken out apart from the dash and carpet, yes I know the initial reasoning behind us pulling everything apart was not taken out.

Highlight of the day would have to be both of us sitting on the floor of the car and driving it whenever someone needed to park or when we had to park it back in the garage. Or when we would scream socket sizes, 10, give the MAN A 10!!!!. All night long, ALLLL NIghhhhtttt. HAHA!

I can't wait for round three.
Then it is time for clean up and time to bring some parts back to life.
Better pictures will be up in round 3.

Shout out to Tim. I owe you NACHOS man.

It is so tempting to leave everything out and just to spray the inside and throw in a bucket seat but that will come in a certain time, I want a beautiful clean interior which I know I have made the way it is.

I can't wait to get into it again, so many laughs and most importantly I learned so much.

I taught my friend Robert how to drive manual yesterday, it was good fun and he handled it pretty well. I'm starting to dislike other people driving my car. I don't know what it is.
The car is at a stand still as I am completely broke at the moment but I guess it gives me time to get the fabric choice right for the car. I'm also going to be buying new bolts for everything as I just want to get it done properly. My aunty is letting me borrow her steam cleaner so I'm going to use that to give the rest of the interior a really good clean.
Oh, I'm also going to have eg6 seats by next week :).Woohoo.

Just got the video application for my 3g iphone and I wanted to test out the video quality so I put my phone down on the floor while I drove around in circles and then parked my car.
Warning, might be very boring.

Okay, so the past week has been very stressful and even though this isn't a progression in my build thread but a big milestone in what it would feel like to lose my car.

I put it up for Sale yesterday. :(.
http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/showthread.php?t=23358

I think I at least owe a few member on here an explanation. Thank you for all your support and everyone telling me not to sell it or (death threat). I love you guys :).
Manny for offering to buy it from me and then giving me the chance to buy it back.
dominator_90 you are awesome, I was so cut when you sent a pm saying you want to buy it because I hope no one did but your approach was very comforting. I'll be keeping a lookout for eg's for you :).

So basically this is what happened.
I've been broke, saving up to start my own little business with my best mate due to working closely with his dad who owns a mechanic that we are hoping to slowly develop into a performance shop means that a lot of my money has gone into a fund that I don't want to touch.

For our year 10 formal a couple of years ago we needed a photographer/videographer so I contacted someone that I was referred to by a family friend. $650 security deposit later that was suppose to be returned to this day was not returned. I payed it because everyone at school lagged to pay their formal payments.
So excuses after excuses I finally really needed the money to pay Tim's fines since I owe him $600. I borrowed money from Tim around the formal time because I was broke since the security deposit took all my money.
Now he doesn't care but I just wanted to pay them because they would add a surcharge soon. So I didn't want to ask anyone for money so the car was the only thing I knew I could quickly sell but everything worked itself out. He still hasn't payed me back but I have the money covered.

PHEWWWW!
Progress, coming soon.

It does however give a little indication of what plans I have for the car in the future.

Garage gets it's final touches to finally be clean and then the rest of the stripping continues.

Yes. I've been neglecting this build.
Not entirely though since I've been working a lot and learning about the mechanical world which I love.
Tomorrow my boss (my best friends dad) has given his son and I a day off to work on my car.
I can't wait.
So what are the plans? I have none, I just want to do as much as I can.
So watch this space tomorrow :).

As for now I'll leave you all with an image from Doug Barton (4shizz) that he took while he road tripped down here with Lloyd (Shogunvondurk).
I love it and this post will be edited with all the other photos he has taken of my car.

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/3592cdfe.jpg

There was a little chip in my windscreen so Tim tried to take it off.
Because the car had been outside for a very long time prior to its purchase the glue went hard as rock and wouldn't budge and then this happened.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/0e083d13.jpg

From then on I had gotten angry at my car and given up :(.
So we stopped working and packed it all away.
Thanks for the help Manny :).

Was good chilling out after we ate though.

Reminder. Always eat prior to work to avoid frustration.

I love my car and I will not give up.
I'm learning everything.

I think the head gasket is gone. I'm going to rebuild the engine by myself :).

My old struts just didn't hold.

Tim wanted Centrum tablets and I think they don't work so we did a swap since he had these spare ones at work.

Just like new :)

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/1a114b0f.jpg

One step at a time.

I've got a little surprise for the next post, I think some of you readers will like it :).

Many people are asking what the plan for my car is.
Well I want to strip the interior and make most of it black. Yes this is just for aesthetics.
I am rebuilding the whole engine and in the process of that the carby's might see some webbers coming there way.
The body will be straightened out and then I will register it and enjoy it while I slowly mod it. Less is more when it comes to my build as I cant help but love a nice clean civic.

Over the weekend I got myself some more bits and pieces for the car.
The inner door rubber is usually grey but I found this black one which will go nicely with the soon blacked out interior.
It's very nice and thick compared to the old one too.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/44da5875.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/0ebb31fd.jpg
Yep, I've only got one. I'm going to have to keep a close lookout for another one.

I'm also doing a rear wiper delete with a little bit of a twist and in the mean time I came across the little hook so it's easier to pull the rear hatch up.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/1e729fad.jpg

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/d4bc40df.jpg

I didn't want an attention seeking tone and Tim had this genuine eg sport muffler in the shop.

It has a nice little grunt to it compared to the stock one.
I'm yet to try it on but I really like it.

My girlfriend got this keyring for me.
Haters leave now
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/765f0443.jpg

I'm really excited about this recent addition to my part collection for the car.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/d88a9a1c.jpg

That's right, two eg6 seats :).
I love them, they are going to be re trimmed as they are a *little* bit dirty. Structurally they are perfect.

Thank you for all the support Jdmst. I really do hope you all enjoy reading my build thread even though it has very little updates :).

I AM FINALLY UP TO DATE :)
So this is all from today :)

I've started my wiper delete though it's going to have something a little bit different.
I'm going to angle grind most of the metal parts on the inside and just keep the mount so the hatch locks.
This is the idea.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/2790c687.jpg
And when it click off on the inside
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss213/rkds92/29cea051.jpg
The original wiper motor mount will be modded to securely hold a flare or torch :).

I havn't really bought anything for my car in a while and with work going well I decided to treat my car to a few little things throughout the week.

My old ones are broken and are affecting how my car performs. I've heard good things about NGK. These are going to go on when the engine gets it rebuild.

I'm slowly going to collect parts for my rebuild.

Next on the list is a head gasket and timing belt.

man thats a serious amount of work that is required to fix the body. You need a front reinforcement bar that helps support the front bar and stops the sagging, i have one so hit me up if you gonna go hunting for one.

p.s: if i were you i would spend my money on body parts which require replacement instead of spending the money on spark leds and magnets and other unnecessary stuff because you realise later that its not gonna help much lol

grifty
31-05-2010, 11:02 PM
i would just get the head machined and slap a new head gasket on, pulling the head off one of those motors is pretty easy and doesn't take much time.

HAHA this reminds me of when i got my EG 9 years ago :P but luckilly mine was in better nick.. but I love your OCD !! the bad news is it gets WORSE haha.

BTW i have a black Climate control.. at least i am 90% sure it's black.. i'll have to dig it out n take a looksy.. but you also need all of the under-dash actuators/rods/harness etc. to get it to actually function. I w as just gonna swap the faceplates over.. i removed my a/c anyway :)

i prob wouldnt bother with the SOHC carby rebuild.. is not as simple as you might think to fit Webbers etc. you need custom manifold plus there is actually an ECU running the carbys (!!) but where there's a will there's a way.. bisimoto used to run carbied SOHC 2L VTECs in the 10"s back in the day..

keep up the good work - but i tend to agree with others on here saying to stop spending coin on NGK leads n stuff and put the $$$ towards the panel work etc.

if u need any help feel free to ask..
