How do i remove the leather shift boot from my ek4? I cant even find a way to clip of that small plastic surround which seems to be holding it in? Can the leather be removed and then replaced without trouble, or is it glued on or something?

easy :D

remove the centre console by starting with the removal of all the screws with a philips head screw driver. Remove the shifter knob. Once all screws are out you remove the plastic housing which covers the e-brake. Then you can pull out the other plastic part that has the shifter boot. turn it upside down and the rest id self explanatory. Install by reversing the removal steps.
Any probs, PM me :)

cheers

If you need diagrammatical assistance with the consol removal I think I have a picture that I might be able to scan and email to you. Shoot me a PM if you want me to try and dig it up.

No probs.

Shouldn't be to hard to remove the consol. As far as I remember it wasnt that many screws/clips.

anyway once you get the screws undone on the console, i think you have to take your gear knob off, and then you will be able to get the boot off as i believe it is also screwed to the console, once you've got the console off, unscrew the metal thing that holds the boot in place and it should just unclip...

Cool

Are you worried about it being noiser, as I would imagine that the shift boot stops alot of noise from the drive train/ shifting etc
