b18c2 is a vti-r engine. b18c5(JDM) or b18c7 is type r motor
maybe they have just change the rocket cover

hmmm so if it is a VTI-R, does the vtec kick in at the same rpm as type R?? coz mine starts from 6000rpm(use to be 5000rpm but put larger pistons) and ends 9000+ ish?

coz my mate has the same set up as me, and his started at 5000rpm aswell(like mine..before i got larger pistons)

i gues im not too fussed about it coz performance does me proud and i got the enigine cheaper than usual (mates rates..)

Hey Dex_13,

Sounds like you may have been jooped out of your hard earned. Sad.

So it's stamped B18C2 on the engine block? If so, definately VTI-R motor.

Was the seller describing it as JDM or Aus spec Type R motor?
JDM motor = B18C stamp on block
Aus spec = B18C7 stamp on block.

I'm sure you'd already know this.

Red rocker cover doesn't mean much in terms of B-series motors, though indeed the c7 motors came with them from factory.

Did it also come with gearbox? Type R would have S80 sticker on the 'box also?

Was it front cut or motor only?

what if the motor had a orange top :P. or even full chromed out

everyone above is right, its very easy to paint the rocker cover to what ever colour or style you like.
just be careful at what u look at haha

just some added info. i am under the assumption that B18C could mean vti-r or type r jdm motor. but in japan B18C vti-r's were called si-vtec (dont quote me on this) and usualy they came without the option of sunroof.

if u ever stumble on a situation whre it says B18C and you are not sure if its a type r or not, best bet would be to look also at the intake manifold.

in vti-r's the manifold the manifold curved downwards
like this
http://www.tigerjapanese.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/1d80336ab58cae094a4b56ef645c84b5.jpg

and the type r's intake manifold curved upwards
like so.

do you see?

but majority of the time if its a vti-r in australia. if its aus spec it should say b18c2

Common B18's:

B18C = JDM Type-R
B18C7 = AUDM Type-R

Both with Red Rocker Cover

B18C2 = AUDM VTiR

Black Rocker Cover

All engages vtec at 4700, correct me if I'm wrong.
Rocker covers can be painted at anytime, so don't just look at the rocker cover.

the other day i just looked at my rego sticker and noticed there was a "2" next to the b18c(b18c2xxxxxxx-followed by a long line of numbers lol)....so i assumed it was b18c2 but when i actually checked the block it had only b18c.

man i am HARD OUT NOOB!!! but all good guys, deffinately have a jdm spec type R engine!

but thanks for all the help and feed back..=)

But then again, both JDM b18c SIR(vti-r) and JDM b18c typeR are stamped as "B18C", so like people have suggested above, check the head. to remind you
- PR3 = Type R
- P72 = SIR (vti-r)

You owe me, took me forever to find a picture of b-series block ( straight front view that is)

Like i said in the picture, you can also tell when the engine was made.

Yes its true that both JDM b18c SIR and jdm type r is printed B18c on the block.

For example, what happens if i got a b18c SIR block and slap and b16a pr3 head on it + red rocket cover + type IM. How would you identfiy that?

Another way to identify if its a type r or not is at that back of the block. Only type r b18c and b16a comes with standard oil cooler at the back.

JDM b18c SIR and audm b18c2 also known as GSR, DOES NOT COME WITH OEM OIL COOLER

i cant find any rear pictures of b18c2 block, but all b18c2 owners will know if they have the OEM oil cooler or not

Hope that helps mate
