If you are planing on rebuilding an engine (cams, valve train, pistions, rods, rings .ect) the whole lot does it matter which variation of the B18 series you get?
Basically will I get the same preformance if I pick up a cheap B18C2 and rebuilt it as if I got a B18C5 and rebuilt it?
And if you are doing a full rebuild which is the cheapest long block?
Cheers.

B18C2 would be your cheapest alternative.. most B-series components are interchangeable

it depends what you're using the car for. for street, differences would be negligible.

Op , the b18c5 engine is a US version of the integra type r motor. It is highly unlikely that these exist in Australia at all.
You need to research more - and realise that locally we have only b18c2 ( vtir ) , b18c7 ( audm itr ) and b18c ( both sir and itr imported from japan ) .
Just to help tho , a b18c7 or b18c ( jdm itr motor) is the best bet.

I am fully aware of that I was thinking of importing a B18C5. http://www.nagasakijdmmotors.com
And there are plenty of half cuts around with the B18C in them.
Even if your gutting it and replacing everything you still think a B18C7 or B18C is cheaper/best way to go?

Is there anywhere that list which components are interchangeable between the B series engines?

Maybe so - but why would you think to import a motor from the US ? That's 180ish kg. I would dread to think how much that would cost to get over to here. Not to mention customs taxes etc
So, why bother when locally you can get the same thing here and no doubt cheaper.
Cheapest option is a b18c2 vtir engine , then build up with money saved from the original purchase price
just IMO

It's easier to get good results from the B18C7 or JDM B18C Type R than the B18C2
But all B18C's have great potential when done right.
Done wrong would be getting a retard to build it on a turd skinner's budget.

Rather than rebuilding an entire engine why don't you just find one that performs well with leak-down test?
Otherwise you should buy a brand new CTR or ITR.
Alternatively you could reco a B16A head and a B20 block and build yourself a frank setup :)

I have time and money so why not? + I want to build something that will easily out preform a CTR or ITR. and I already have as civic so.
Haven't looked in to B16A/B20 block, if you spent ~4-6k on a B18C or a B16A/B20 which one would you get higher preformance and reliability out of? Also what are the implications of putting a B20 block in an integra?

Money is not an issue man. I just said the B18C5 because it has of the highest stock peak out puts and the B18C2 because it's mid range.
And I just wanted to know if you're doing the whole "kit-n-kaboodle" if it matters which long block you start with?
