Hey guys,
I have a d16y4 that has been turbo'd, but the engine is on its way out. When the oil cap is opened, she is blowing heaps of white smoke (i suspect rings), plus I have been told that the engine is down on compression.
I was wondering my options, it terms of where to go from here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....
1) Get another D16y4 (SOHC non vtec) and put all the turbo parts back on.
2) Get a ZC (DOHC non vtec engine) and put all the turbo parts on.
3) Get a b16A (DOHC vtec) and turbo it.
The current setup runs a garrett turbo and a front mount, with Apexi SAFC-II and a GReddy ECU.
If I run the ZC engine will i need to change the turbo manifold?
Will I need to forge all the engines regardless to do the job properly, or could I say get away with just the d16y4 with all the turbo parts bolted on without forgies.....
Appreciate the time and advice,

depends on your budget n what you want from the car, if you get another same engine would be the quick n easy fix, you know everything fits and shoud run like when it was first turbo charged.
a ZC would be abit better and your manifold should bolt up since its also a D series motor right? then you would need a retune
a b16a would set you back abit to do the conversion and then to retune it. if you choose you defiantly need a new manifold and everything else should fit up depending on new manifold
you dont need to get forged internals unless your pushing alot of boost and/or chasing big numbers. about 8-10psi should be safe.

Dude
3) Get a b16A (DOHC vtec) and turbo it.
you won't look back plus most things are transferable anyway
You should list what you've got installed now?

current setup has garrett turbo (unsure which one yet, will post it up when i pull it out of the car) and a front mount. Has BOV and Ext wastgate, but i think the internals are all standard. I think bang for buck, I will build up a forged D16 engine.....

Close to all Built D16's go pop in AUS :thumbdwn:
Good luck
Appart from the ZC I should add

why do they do that? If they have all the forged internals and are tuned properly.......they should be fine, right? I have been doing some reading on turboD16 threads, and they are pulling anywhere between 200-400whp safely on 15-30psi........
they should be the same, all depends on the parts used, builder n tuner.how much would u spend on getting forged internals? When a stock b16a turbo on 7-10psi would get you ~300whp depending on your turbo setup that is.

how much will a clean b16a set me back? 2k?
also who do you guys recommend to tune the car, i live in southside brisbane....

not sure about tune, but with the motor swap it depends on how much you want to spend,
you'll need more than a motor like gearbox, mounts, wiring, ecu, shift linkage, drive shafts
then if you want to go abit futher like bigger brakes, new clutch, etc etc. just depends on your budget
a b16a halfcut should cost from 2k+

yeah a bit out of my budget, seeings as i will then need to forge the internals as well. D series parts are cheap and easy, no need for mounts / wiring swaps etc.....
if you swap a b16a in, you can run 7-10psi easy on it with stock internals n compression, dont need to forge internals for boost, ive been running mine on 10psi daily for the last 4 years, no issues with blown pistons etc.

really, what power are you pulling? =]

Yeah I'm running stock internals, read my sig for stats
161kw at 9psi
im pushing 192kws, but it comes down to your engines health/parts/tune

I got quoted 4k for an EK4 halfcut!
Y4, vitaras, eagle rods, even a cam & tune, 2k.....
