When you get bigger rims... what happens?

I'm thinknig of getting 1 inch bigger rims, and keeping the same tyre width and asepct ratio.
At the moment I have 235/40/17, if i was to get 235/40/18 on an 18inch rim... Will my ride height be higher? will the gap between the tyre to guard increasE?

search tyre size calculator in google , and it allows u to enter all the measurements of tyre/rim.. and gives u overall diameter rolling speed etc etc

235 is width

40 is profile.

So if your getting the same profile tyre on a larger rim.. the overall size will be bigger on the 18 vs your 17...

generally your profile size decreases as you increase rim size, to compensate for the overall diameter.

use this to calculate the size of your tyres. If you get bigger rims but keep the same aspect ratio your overall diameter will be larger, so I'd say you'll actually fill the gaps with your guards, but car will also sit higher.

You'll need 235/35/18 to keep your overall diameter the same.

Can we say that bigger the rim, witha smaller profile will allow me to close the gap between tyre + guard?

To close the gap you'd want a higher profile tyre. I'd think 40 aspect ratio would work well for your case.

nah other way around..
low profile=thin
high profile=thick

oh dw.. I get what you mean.. yeh when you look at it rims would appear a little smaller, but not that noticeable. 40 is not a fat profile so it would still look nice.

i know youve already made your decision, but the overall change in he rolling diameter of the wheel/tyre combo will potentially change your overall gearing and putt more strain on your gearbox
