Hi guys,

Bodywork and exterior are underway, bah the experimental paint job I'm trying.

Anyways now its time to look at the interior. I'm after a DC5R that resembles a cruiser for the time being. In my thoughts its too much of a nice ride not to be showing off. Here is a list of things I plan to do any suggestions or comments are welcomed.

Polish my Shifter knob (possibly change, haven't found the right one yet...)
4 point harness (has anyone heard of or recommends Isotta??)
Engine start button
Dash display Illumination (its so dull when it gets dark)
Cabin neons as well as air vent LED
Alpine (Double Din) headunit

Things my car has already got
Type R rear view mirrow
Clarion Amp

Btw sorry to hijack my own post but can I ask is this normal, 100km/h should be 3100rpm in 6th gear?? Trying to find a baseline for my car to see what I can do to it afterwards.

- You can buy polished "teardrop" gearknobs off a trader or EBAY. Have you seen an FN2R gearknob?
- Why do you need the harness? Are you going to be tracking the car? They are not very good for street use (as you can't lean forward).
- Few kits floating around using the S2k start botton. Is actually a nice touch.
- I don't understand what is so dull about it. Its "basic"... the entire dash is basic. It has a steering wheel, tacho, speedo, radio and air con controls. What are you actually planning on doing?
- Neons... lulz
- Which alpine headunit? Full faced TV screen?

100km/h at 3100rpm in 6th is correct. What do you mean by "Trying to find a basline for my car to see what i can do to it afterwards"?

*There is a particular style of knob Im after but haven't found yet... Might just get the stock polished for now.
*The harness will be a looks thing at first I think it screams agression, but yea eventually I want to take the car for the occasional weekend thrash, it is a type r after all. Plus I'll still keep the old seat belt in place harness just mounts by bolts so no bigge with removal. Been looking on ebay is Isotta any good?
*Yea I got the button, and my mate is helping with the install, alrdy done his car, its not exactly the S2k one, its IDEC and glows blue.
*I sorta own a Jazz too bah in another state, whenever u change the lighting situation, example you go through a tunnel, the display illuminates without you having to turn on the lights. I know it maybe hard changing this but I gotta try.
*Neons 2f2f ftw!! Paul Walker's Skyline my inspiration
*Headunit haven't decided upon yet, want something functional for the future too. Plan to upgrade the ECU eventually and was hoping to have it Engine management displayed

As for baseline, I bought the car with added extras but the previous owner didn't know what was done before her and I'm trying to decipher everything thats been done and work from there. Now that the car is in my hands its going to be pampered like hell with nothing but the best stuff and a few mods here and there. Dont worry I have read the DC5R performance upgrade thread. Just need to know what I'm starting with first.

I suggest selling your gear knob instead and buying a cheap polished one if you're going for the polished look. Your gear knob is worth some money - if you polish it and it tooks crap then no ones going to buy it i.e. you've screwed yourself...

You can get cheap ones for like $20 and wait and find that one you're keeping an eye out for...

btw wtf is bah? Stop saying bah... Bah why? Bahcause you look like a douche doing it...

Look it is your car and you can do as you wish... Some things i think you SHOULD really look into before doing them seriously....
Neons is a personal thing and i understand that as my POS Daily has them but i will not put them on my ITR apart from in the footwells inside.
As 45SET has said, the interior is very simple and is the way a interior should be, if you wanna lighten it up, change the H/U, get foglights and engine start and then you'll have a few extra things i suppose?? lol...
Have you look at a mugen gear knob, i have one, very nice looking, polished aluminum i think of them top of my head.. don't get something that won;t suit the interior but as i said, your car mate, your choice :)
Just don't RICE it up.. lol

Maybe he is from NZ? =P

I joke.

OT: I have looked into buying the push-start, would be a good mod.

Bah is the language I use after a long hard day at work, was trying to think of the right word "albeit" but my mind just goes blank after work. What I'm planning to do is polish my existing knob because at the moment is looks pretty beaten up and worn.

What I'm after is a subtle chill out space where I can just jump in my car and escape the world outside, I'm not going to go overboard, just planning to stick some neons under the seats so that it has a glowing effect.

Btw I am Asian so its ok if I rice it up ;)

Ah don't do this to a Type R.
Neon's are so 2000-2003. They aren't cool anymore, and the way Police are cracking down on modified cars you don't want attract more attention.
You talk about buying the best of the best parts. Yet go to random brand engine start buttons, and ask about isotta harnesses. Harnesses are both illegal and dangerous if not mounted properly. If you wanted the best of the best stuff for your car, you'd be looking at Takata or Willans harnesses - also these brands scream porn and SAFETY, which is what these restraints are designed for - not just a fashion statement.

best doesn't always mean brand name for me, if its practical, does what it says its meant to do and looks right on my ride, that would be considered best to me. There is a fine line between best and practicality and sometimes the branded stuff doesn't deliver.

The start button I got looks right for ride and also has the added feature that it acts like a relay too, so not much time stuffing around with the wiring, to me this was the best option. Besides trying to think of places to mount it is more important :)

Like people have said its my ride at the end of the day, I'll post pics when I'm done so then you can judge for yourself

When it comes to safety (ie: harness), brand names generally deliver. Takata is used in Toyota F1 car. Willans are used in lots of circuit and rally cars.
The fake wheel vs real wheel is a good example. They both state that they roll, hold tyre pressure and look the same. However, when a Rays forged rim hits a massive pot hole, at worst it dents in, leaving it drivable. If a Rota wheel hits a massive pot hole, the rim shatters - you may then crash into an oncoming car, tree whatever, and do lots of damage.

Each to their own, but there is a reason why things are "real" and cost more. Brand names with car parts are directly related to quality and safety. Would you rather buy a genuine iPad, or a fake iPed chinese knock off?

Quite frankly, with the engine start button I would be buying a real S2000 one directly from Honda. End of the day it's a switch. If it fails, the worse thing is that you can't start the car. It sucks!!! My cheap kill switch died on me, I was stuck in the car park for 3 hours until some one met me to bring cutters and electrical tape. Just something to consider man.
