Went to get some parts for my car yesterday from OEM Honda. My Air box has obviously been modified before I bought the car, because the hose that attaches to the top of the engine (to recirculate oily air into the engine) is a heater hose that has been glued to my air box. Now that the glue has broken off there is no seal connection between air box and engine, I know performance suffers but willing to put up with it for now. For the time being the hose sits over the air box opening but its not a clean hold, ie open to the atmosphere.

My question is is it worth me spending $150 to get a new top air box cover from Japan, it comes with the hoses and clips to hold it in place. Or would it be worthwhile installing an oil catch can in place? Or anything else anyone can think of.

I just bought a K&N air filter so would like to keep it stock for now.

Don't purchase new, you could probably look around for a used airbox for ~$50.
Take a picture of the hose so we can get a better idea of what the real problem is.

Can't you just get a new hose, and clips from like bunnings?

The airbox has the hose tab broken off, could possibly replace that hose and use a larger hose to connect the two points.

Nah mate i'd say it's not worth buying a new air box for 150, go to wreckers and buy the top piece only, or even better buy a injen cai.

Hmmm... i'd try a Honda wrecker in Perth. If not, put up a WTB here on OzHonda, people here are great with that stuff.

gonna try to get a 2nd hand one for now from a wreckers, but doesn't look good since I'm in Perth. I would go the cai except I just bought a k&n filter for the stock airbox and a cai has to be properly installed or I get a defect notice :(

Here is a thought though. Is it worth installing an oil catch can while I'm searching out the top cover? Or does the box itself act like a catch can? I know my engine is running pretty inefficiently without a secure connection any suggestions for a temp fix?

No harm in running a catch can. If the car is stock, then just leave it and get the stock airbox. Try source if from somewhere else if you can find it in perth, and get them to send it over.
