Hi
I just chucked some new EBC Yellowstuff pads on the front of my DC5. Took it out for a test drive and the front brakes are locking under hard braking (fine under normal braking). The rear pads are still stock, fairly new though.
Is this due to front / rear bias being wrong? Or do I have some kind of other problem?
Thanks

I hadn't at that stage, regardless they shouldn't be locking, I have ABS.
I have since taken it for a good hard drive including several hard stops from 100km/h+ to bed them in. Once they have some heat in them they pull the car up nice and quickly however the wheels still lock everytime I really stomp on the brakes, effectively they brakes are fine (they're great actually) I've just lost ABS. No ABS lights on the dash either...

is it a constant skid or a skid roll skid roll skid roll when u brake
cos under my assumption ABS still skids a little.

you didnt knock out an abs sensor at all when you were doing the pads?
I'd also be checking for an abs sensor issue or even a fuse or something......However, Yellowstuff pads ARE NOT made for the street and aren't designed for ABS. We use DS2500 in the commodores and ABS struggles to work with the high friction coeficcient values.
The caliper only releases very slightly when locking occurs. This is usually enough for an OEM/road pad to 'let go' but some race pads will still be locked at this point. The ABS unit will never release until the wheel unlocks incase its actually a circuit malfunction which would leave you with no brakes......which isnt good i might add.....

Gday mate, is it the front brakes that are locking or is it the rears? I know when I had my CRX I did up the brakes before I'd done anything to the suspension and because I had so much more stopping power the car would compress the front suspension a lot more than it did prior, taking all the weight off the rear wheels causing them to lock.
If it is your rears locking its quite possibly because the rears can't keep the rear of the car planted due to the extra bite of the front pads now. If you are getting complete wheel lock though and sliding without the ABS intervening that's quite strange and something you'll need to get looked at.
