I found this article interesting. I was finding my 2006 CVT Jazz to ping noticeably in hot weather, especially with the air on.
This stopped when I switched to E10, and now I know why. According to this article, it has an unofficial octane rating of 94, because the ethanol is currently added straight to the 91 octane standard unleaded.
No doubt it will eventually be brought back to a crappy 91 octane soon.

just like to add my 2c

e10 in my jazz , runs below par in performance , economy. Feels generally "slower" and restricted.

I would of thought this to be an issue , as many older cars rely on using unleaded ( IE people that have older cars cant afford or cant justify to get a newer car ) - so by phasing out the base fuel they HAVE to get a newer car that can use this E10 fuel ( the fuel system itself is the issue - E10 can damage older fuel lines / seals etc ) .

Shell e10 is 94 octane but BPs e10 is only 91. Not sure about Caltex or the independents.

it means all the drivers of older cars have to move up to premium 95 or 98 which costs substantially more than unleaded, or buy a newer car as ben mentioned.
it's only in NSW and their reason is the whole environment argument.
