Its a common thing in honda Gear boxes .

I usually put it into another gear say first of 3rd then put it into reverse.

Seems smoother then.

Dont force it into reverse.

Like I said in the other thread.....it is because reverse doesn't have synchros and it is a set of straight cut gears engaging.

1. Make sure you are still
2. Put your foot on the clutch to disengage it
3. Put into 4th
4. Take out of 4th and then put into reverse.

Won't crunch at all again.

Don't you love it when you're cars moving then you decide to slam it into reverse and then you hear that nice crunch noise. Marvellous.:D

lol. my car does it always whenever im still, or moving so im gona try the 4th gear thing... i just used to pump the clutch a few times which slightly reduced the loudness of the crunching...... and yea its cause there is no syrncos for a backwards gear as you dont want to enage revesre when moving fowards for obvious reasons.....

my reverse crunches on occasions, every time I go for reverse, I put it into first+second then reverse which does help, but on the odd chance the gear box wont be nice to me

mine crunches too - probably because i SLAM it into "R" after 5th gear.....

it does stand for "racing" gear ?

hahah this is becoming a joke thread.
Anywayz mine also crunches when i slip it into reverse. sometimes pretty bad. I put my foot on the clutch put it into 2nd and leaving my foot on the clutch slip it into reverse/

It has become 2nd nature now, every time i put into reverse always put into second before it.
hope this helps..

I remember being a nooby manual driver. Reached for 4th gear and I hear this loud crunch. Accidently put it in "RACING" GEAR.

Stick with MTF unless you are having problems with wearing/worn synchros.

crunching into R because it has no syncro...(unlike the euros, and the dc5)

cure for it is to ALWAYS shift into any other gear, usually for me 1st or 4th, and then into R.

works fine, no crunching.

I chose 4th for 2 reasons......

1. Closest to 1:1
2. Closest gear to Reverse ;)

i usually put it in 4th then reverse coz dat sound is all so hurtful...n embarassin if ur reverse parkn n ppl r around ahha !

but den again i dun understand...reverse is there 2 b put into gear no matter wat gear u were in b4 hand...friggin shit honda's.... = p

it happens to most manual cars after a while, its the fact that the reverse gear is diff to the normal gears, its a spur gear and non syncro-mesh. Thats why it crunches if ur not still. Putting it to any other gear or taking up the revs ever so slightly will fix it.
