View Full Version : HELP NEEDED. ignition problem
hey guys. my parents accord is havign a problem.
its a 2000 Honda Accord V6-Luxury. okay. so heres the problem. everytime i start the vehicle.. i turn the keys 2 notches.. and it beeps. then i wait for beeping to stop, and SRS lights turn off. so then i start the engine. USUALLY, it starts up normally, but now, i have to turn and HOLD the key for a LONGER period of time, as it struggles to start.
i have very little knowledge on cars.. i suspect it may be clogged up injectors.. or i might be completely wrong. the car has done 90,000kms. it has a full service history at Honda Dealers..(up until 80,000kms) and we decided to service it ourselves. and now at 90,000kms, this happens. what u guys think it is? and what u think i should do?

was the fuel filter and park plugs replaced at 80 000kms ?
just jump in it and start it, no need to wait for the self diagnostics period, that will still happen when the engine fires.
ohh i forgot to mention. sorry. we replaced all the spark plugs, motor oil, fuel filters, coolant, transmission oil at 80,000kms. and then just serviced it yesterday aswell/ replacing spark plugs with NGK ones. fuel filter was changed at 80,000kms but not at 90,000kms. used genuine honda motor oil.
the problem only occurs when the engine has been off for a while..
if u start it.. and then stop it. then start it like 20 seconds later.. it will be normal. but if u start it the next day.. it will happen again

Try injector cleaner if you haven't already. It works wonders on my pulsar with all the crappy fuel up my way.
You could try a tank of shell optimax or other PULP if your parents just run standard unleaded to blow out the cob webs.
I would look at simple things like making sure the battery is topped up with distilled water and fully charged. This can make a difference too.

Check and clean everything. Battery is filling up, alternator is working, injectors clean, spark plugs etc. Have you changed the battery before?
yeh. we cahgned battery at 80,000kms. and topped up with distilled water 2 days ago. i'll try the injector cleaner today, along with a tank of shell optimax or seomthng..
any cons for using injector cleaner?
i'll keep you guys posted on this. thanks

Try another key if you have a factory imobiliser. I have had the immobiliser being faulty once.
It could be anything and its hard to guess most people would have to see it first hand.

any cons for using injector cleaner? I don't think so. Just use as directed. I have been using it for a while now, like every 2 - 3 months I put a bottle in. The Optimax is supposed to clean out your fuel system as well.

Not your ignition relay is it? I had very similar symptoms in my Accord...it took ages to start then one day wouldnt start at all. Injectors were clean as a bell, battery had heaps of juice (its an optima yellow top), and the alarm system was fine.
Turned out the soldering in the ignition relay had fubared itself. 45 mins with an auto electrician fixed that :)
