Ok, been looking at cars on carsales and all the DC5R seem to have different colour engine covers. Some are silver, some are red, at first i found that most blue DC5R had silver covers and most white/black DC5R ones had red covers, but then i found a white and black DC5R with silver engine covers too.
If the engine cover is silver does that mean its not a type r engine? Whats the difference other than the colours?

factory silver ...
most ppl just spray them red or buy JDM covers
PeppeX

so it should actually be silver for all AUDM DC5R? And JDM DC5R have red covers?

If the engine rocker cover is RED and car has a K20A2 engine # on the rego sticker at window then its not a JDM engine

It would be wise to assume that you are unlikely to come across a genuine JDM DC5R in Australia without the owner plastering that fact all over it, especially on carsales.
Many peeps bling their engine bay up with the JDM rocker for aesthetic reasons like everything else :)

Engine number is not shown on NSW or VIC's rego stickers.

Lies ^^
Victoria rego stickers come with the Rego sticker on it lol...
im looking at my new rego sticker now :)
I pulled out my 2007 VIC rego sticker and all it shows is the VIN number. No engine number on it. If they changed it recently, then I am wrong. :)

lol well i havent paid my rego yet so ive got the sticker next to me lol.... They now show VIN & Engine No..
They probably have changed it recently to help indentify vehicles that have had a motor swap but havent registered it to the car
I'm sure there is no engine number and only vin on the vicroads rego stickers, but I'm going to check mine to make sure LOL, don't wanna get flammed

Thats kinda stupid isnt it? Cars with rare engines will more likely to be stolen since it can be easily identified from the rego sticker lol e.g. JDM integra

I guess you're wrong about vic rego's kiddo.....we can always tell which is JDM and which isnt.
.....and no they havent changed it recently, it has always been in that format where it shows the engine # in the last 3 yrs or even more.

True, most people, in Victoria, on carsales wouldnt even answer back if the red rocker cover is JDM engine. Just get their rego plate and look up the engine at (google it) "Vicroads vehicle status check" site. There, is where you see alot of info such as engine # and more....etc

^^ Wrong. That is not ALWAYS the case. Some people swap the motor over but don't get the engine registered to the vehicle due to problems they may face when trying to.

Don't be condescending, I've already said that I was wrong.
My 2007 vic rego sticker does not have the engine number on it, which is why I thought they didn't. My NSW rego also doesn't show the engine number.

@WATAJK: Wouldnt that be illegal to drive around a car with a different engine if it isnt approved by Vicroads?....

Only illegal if you get caught.
If you caught with a engine that's not registered to your vehicle you basically get hassled on how you came into possesion of it (until you can prove it, receipts...)
Also... then the car is unroadworthy as it needs the engine registered to vehicle, it may then be subjected to all EPA bullshit... VicRoads etc... easier to just go get it registered in the first place
