I've been think of getting an air compressor for rattle guns etc.
Just wondering what size should I choose?

or should I get a larger size.

It will do the job. Of course it is not the best but good enough for what you are using it for. But not good enough for spraying a whole car but enough to spray a panel or anything smaller. But for just a rattle gun that will be OK.

I try out the 24L, 30days money back hehe :D, but as my friend said I will run out of gas quick and will need to recharge the air all the time.

GMC 2hp 24L Air Com is $99 with hose, 2.5hp 40L one is $200
rattle gun is $40 almost everywhere but no sockets, or a complete gun tool kit with sockets etc etc is $70-$100.

Kmart sells for 2.5hp 40L with hose and an air drill + 10 tools for $230. Check this weeks catalogue and u get your flybuys :D

refills??? what refills??

Looks like i will be spending $200-$300
I should get pay for advertisments lol :D

vtc: by recharge civiceg9 means the gas inside the cylinder will runout and would need to pump more air in. Thats the downfall of having a small capacity compressor, you drain it quicker than it can pump.

True but you are not gonna use it all day every day. If you got a bit of spare cash I would get a 40l, also if you have a bit extra go for belt driven rather than direct drive. But as I said, If you won't use it much a 24l will be fine.

Unless you stop every so often to let the compressor work and pump in air as you go then you wont have a problem.

OK thanks for the clarification. For amateur mechanics, i dont think we would use that much would we. Saying taking off 4 wheels, that could be done in one go with a 24L tank surely?

most rattle guns will drain thet poor little 24 liter air tank real quick, you will find the compressore will kick in towards the end of the 1st wheel, you will need to wait till the compressor has finished filling the tank coz if you keep using the rallte gun while the comressor is running it will never catch up. also get some decent air line as the one that comes with the compressor is a bit restrictive. to corectly power a air rattle gun, you need about 10 to 15 cfm compressor

AHhh good thread!

What about for something like say just the 32mm hub not or say flywheel bolts? Would a 24L tank be enough?

Would a 24L tank be enough?Yeh it will be fine, all the tank size indicates is how much compressed air it holds. the smaller the tank the sooner it will need to refill when in use, but it still will give the same amount of pressure to run tools.

I guess ones at garages are like 100L+

Well how much time do you have to wait for a tank to be filled? casue im sure it wont be that long and wont justify spending the extra 100.

So cheapest packages so far is 24L 2.4hp woth rattle gun for $250 at Kmart. Correct?

lets see of boxing day sales brings anything good.

recharges can be about < 1 minute... but it can piss u off if your in the middle of taking a part off and u gotta wait between bolts.

Just because the tank is filling doesn't mean you can't still use the tool.

the CFM value of the compressor pump is also important as to how quick it can refill that 24l tank.

like 1000L dude, masive tanks, so to compensate for the bigger tank you get a massive compressor, dual piston and all that.

ok I just try the bunning 24L GMC air compressor
there is only like just enough air to do one wheel, then u need to wait for the thing to recharge. I think I will get a 40L tank.

just curious, did you use the air line it comes with , the pig tail type plastic coil hose , or normal air hose. I have found that coil hose is too small, its inside diameter is too small so there is less air flow to power a rattle gun.

You get free air hose with air compressors now, is the proper rubber hose type
not the hard plastic ones.
