Hi All,

Any s2k owners who are free and live in the Eastern Suburbs ? I am located in Blackburn South and heading to Ferntree Gully and can pick you up.

The appointment is 8pm at the sellers place. If all is good, I will probaly get one of those pre-purchase inspections organised as well but would like someone who knows about s2k to just do a general look over if possible.

Thanks again.

I went and had a look at an s2k last night. It had full honda service history and even a clutch replaced at 80,000 kms by Honda which costed I think 3k + (including servicing). Only thing was the rear window has like smudge marks across it from where it folds. I was wondering with the clutch itself, if it was replaced at 80,000 kms, would that mean it has been driven hard or is it the normal lifespan of the clutch ? Interior etc looks very good. Engine was quiet and no tappings etc. I haven't taken the car out for a drive but I will if I do decide to get the car.

I enquired about getting the car dropped off at RACV inspection and he said he was a little reluctant to do this as he doesnt have the time and that the people there may pull things off his car etc. He was okay with anyone coming around to his house to do this inspection though.

Anyone have any thoughts etc ? This is the car I went to look at.

The smudge mark thing is normal for the earlier model soft tops, because of it's material characteristics, when it folds it will leave a crease mark, until it heats up then cools down again it'll be less noticeable.. But definately not a problem, he probably had his top down for a while.

Where did he get the servicing done? In a lot of cases, if its a Honda dealer, if you tell the dealer you are interested in buying it they will tell you if its problematic or not. This is better than a RACV inspection in a lot of cases as they will have some sort of history on file for the car.

Drive it, and if it feels tight then it should be a good'un, have you driven others to compare? There is a buyers checklist on s2ki you might want to read also.

Looking at picutres on the ad the car looks to be in great condition and looked after. The rear window can be cleaned with 'plastic window cleaner', problems with the clutch could be a number of reasons, some people cannot drive manual properly so they would ride the clutch which would wear it out esspecially in traffic, could also be driven hard but this car is meant to be driven hard aslong as the fluids have been changed at the right intervals and the clutch is a replaceable part so if its been replaced thats good. To me it looks clean its a little pricey prob because its been looked after. Worth getting it inspected and getting a inspection report, then go from there.

How did the gearbox feel? was it notchy/rough or smooth?

Thanks for the reply guys. This is the first s2k that I saw and I didn't take it out for a drive purely coz we haven't come to an agreement on price. This is probaly something we can work on. I sat in the car and changed the gears (engine off) and it felt tight and slots in properly (sounds rude) but I know it needs to be driven and changed at high revs and check for crunches etc. In regards to calling Honda to check for the car history, will they release this kind of info to me ?

The service was done at Yarra Honda in Collins street. He did his 90,000 kms service at 82,xxx kms. There have been 5 services done at this Honda since 55,000 kms.

Dude, test drive it before you begin to negotiate a price!!! It seems a bit funny he isn't willing to let the racv do a check on it as well.

He said they can do it at his house, just not take it to the workshop.

that still sounds a bit suss to me. Its just got me wondering why he would be happy for somebody to do the check at his house but not at a garage. I mean your just as likely to "pull things off his car" at his house as in a shop. Im sure if he requested to be there witnessing the entire inspection at the shop for his own piece of mind they would have no problem with it. Your going to get a much better inspection at a shop as well. Their could be some kind of damage under the car that would be hard to see without a hoist and he's worried about it getting put up on one for a thurrer inspection?

it could be 100% legit. But Id be questioning it if I was in your shoes. I would also enquire with the place he's been getting it serviced at about the cars history. A buddy of mine put a deposit on a 2004 audi TT recently. the car had unbelievably low K's and was at a pretty great price in a dealership. When he test drove it everything seemed great so he put a deposit down straight away thinking it was too great a price to miss out on. He then went back for a second look at the car and noticed the car radio didnt look quite right... it seemed to look alot older and more tarnished than the rest of the dash.... as if it had been replaced for some reason. when he asked about it they told him it was all original and nothing had been replaced on the car. This obvious lie about the radio being original led him to distrust the whole car and he rang up the audi dealership in sydney that the car had been serviced at. the service book had 5 stamps from this dealer, but the dealer said the car had only been worked on once by them and they had repaired it after a car crash. They also said it had more K's on it when they serviced it than it did currently....so obveously the clock had been wound back. When my buddy rang the dealership in melbourne and told them he did some further checks on the car and wanted his deposit back, the dealership gave it to him no questions asked, so obveously they knew about the cars dodgey history all along. So calling the place the car was last serviced at could prove to be very helpful.

good luck with it all.

After hearing the story above, I'm a bit panicky. So let's say I call the dealership tomorrow and asked them, they would release all details to me yeah ? I will need rego, engine and vin no ?

Also, I should really try and book an inspection in the garage rather than on site ? If he's got mates in there, they might give me dodgy info ? He mentioned to me several times to just call Honda and check the history with them.

Do the rims on this s2k look like they are from 99-01 model ? I read the description and it says that the 99-01 model had lip but not on the 02. I can't figure out where this lip is.
