Hey guys,
called up 2 Honda dealers the other day and I got quoted that the service that will be carried out on my car would be roughly 1.3k to 1.5k. I got told that every 40xxxkm is a major service. Is this correct?

The best way to find out whats a Major and whats a minor is to check your service log book. But yes every 40 is a major on all hondas.

it's been serviced every 10xxxkm.
looks like it has to be carried out then!

vtek; when you said major at 40, what exactly does a major service involve?
i always thought a major service was things like timing belts, water pump etc..
and things like oil changes were carried out every 5/10
ps. i'm a fat newbie, so just asking

euromandeluxe

valve clearance adjustment is a big one every 40,000

Blergh, way too much.

Call other dealerships, shouldn't be anymore than about $1000.

JN7
09-07-2010, 02:24 PM
really? i'll keep calling then.

ludecrs
09-07-2010, 04:11 PM
$1300 would be MAX cost.

I'd seriously expect to pay no more than $1100.

But maybe its different in Sydney than it is in Brisbane?

when i owned my s2k, i was paying $160 for the minors every 10k, and i paid about $600 from a dealer for the 40k km.
as soon as warranty expired, i took it to a honda independent. paid $100 for the minors and he charged me $450 for the majors 40k km. before i sold the car with 117k km on it, i completed the 120k km service and it cost me $450. this was about 4 years ago.

it's all about the Honda stamp for me

yellows2k
20-07-2010, 04:02 PM
any reason for that flawed logic? honestly, do u think it will add to the value of the car? think about it realistically. u pay at least $500 more for every 40k km service, so thats $1500 there, u pay at least $100 more for the minors, so thats another $1000 there. so ur $2500 behind to start with.
next, if 2 similar s2000 were on the market, then the one that sells for a higher price will be the one that is in better condition. service history if complete makes little effect on the resale. especially if its done by a well known workshop, in fact, most people trust a well known independent than stealers.
anyway, its ur money, piss it away however u want. im jsut trying to help people save some cash

I'm in nsw, I live in Sydney now but I used to live in Newcastle.
I had my s2k serviced at kloster Honda under warranty period but went to David brown automotive in Gateshead, Dave brown was the head mech at klosters for 11 years but opened his own workshop with ken walker, a ford mech

It's not like I don't know wat I'm talking about, I have owned 2 s2000's, both I bought new back in early 2001, one was written off, but that's another story.
I experienced all the ownership issues with the car for some 120k km when I owned the cars- replaced roof thru warranty, buzzing clutch thru warranty, serviced at a dealer and with independent, tried numerous tyres, tracked at Wakefield, driven in the rain with roof off many times, pretty much everything u can do with the s2k, I've done or seen myself, most great but some bad

never really thought it about like that. you've got fair points. i guess i'll think twice for my next service perhaps?

yes u shuld john
lmao
like i said. go 2 honda for everything except ur oil.
we can do the oil our selves
diff oil tranny oil and engine oil
just drop by my house
and that way u will also know wat oil is being put in ur car.

JamieP

does anybody know somwhere relatively cheap in melbourne to get it done? I dont need the honda stamp and I can do the oil/filter change myself

tamay_s2k
02-08-2010, 11:56 PM
if u want to do ur fuel filter and diff and tranny oil
i suggest 'EDGE motorworks' in campbellfield.
top guys there man

JamieP
03-08-2010, 02:09 PM
Tamay, do you know how much they'd charge aprox? Thanks

tamay_s2k
03-08-2010, 05:27 PM
it cost me 420 for the lot
diff oil change, tranny oil change, the purchase of a genuine honda fuel filter and the labour for that aswell

JamieP
04-08-2010, 01:09 AM
Shit, that's pretty cheap. And that's for the full major service? I might give them a call this week

euromandeluxe
04-08-2010, 02:54 AM
correct me if i'm wrong but don't think that covers a full major service, only the fluid and filter changes he listed. no valve clearance inspection/adjustment or any of the other bs inspections they do (suspension, steering tie rods, etc).

if you can do engine oil yourself, tranny and diff fluid are a breeze. do them yourself if you have a jack and stands, no point paying someone to do them when it's so simple. just don't strip the bolts!

fuel filter (or the 'fuel sock' that the S has) is a labour intensive job - something I'd pay to get done. CRS said it's around a 4 hour job. does anyone know what the interval for this is? I think it's 100,000km. need to check my logbooks, lol.

tamay_s2k
04-08-2010, 03:19 AM
apparently u change fuel filter every 40,000kms
thats wat it writes in the manual
4 hours really for fuel filter?
my mechanic did it in 1 hour?
the annoying part is the fact that u pretty much have 2 remove the parcel shelf 2 get 2 it properly.

tamay_s2k
04-08-2010, 03:23 AM
oh and did i also mention that in that service
i also got my clutch master cylinder changed aswell.
so it costed me 420 added up including the brand new fuel filter and clutch master cylinder (both original and brand new from honda) PLUS diff n tranny oil AND labour
dont no how much he will charge other customers because i no him quite well. apparently he doesnt really do hondas....usually only turbo jap cars but he made an exclusion for me bcuz my cuzn works for him as apprentice
give him a go but
he might be able 2 help you guys out
with the valve clearance...i went striaght to wirraway honda and they charged me only 150 for that
took them a whole day but

I just phoned Geelong Honda care and they quoted me $500 minus the oil change and air filter replacemet. I figure i'd may as well just pay $80 for a k&n filter than to buy another oem for $80 that I will have to replace again in 40,000 ks. Hopefully they won't try and hit me with hidden costs when I go to pick the car up.

I just got my car back from having my 160,000 service at Geelong Honda Care. Im doing my own oil/filter change and I told them not to worry about changing the air filter as Im getting an after market intake in the next couple of weeks. They only charged me $400 for the major service, minus the things I just mentioned. They also hooked me up with some free extra plastic screws that I was missing in my car. From what I can tell they did a great job and my car is driving great.

tamay_s2k

im on 150,000kms now
wat did they do for the service that cost u 400?

JamieP
11-08-2010, 07:51 PM
Everything that the service manual states for the major service. New fuel filter, coolant, valve clearance, tranny oil, diff oil and a few other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

i work at honda and while ive never done a 120k on a s2000 i think its valve clearances, oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter, brake and clutch fluid, rotation etc so its a big service. thats more than your average 40k because you have the brake/clutch fluid that happens at the 60k intervals too
