got a dc2r doin 13L/100km which is really bad. my driving is fine, i may occassionally give vtec a hit, but still shouldn't amount this bad. last fill up i got 11L/100km, and was in higher revs more that fillup

i got a 3" custom intake pipe to a mugen box, complete exhaust from engine back, but also got the buddy club condesnor thingy (supposed to improve fuel economy) bought the car with everything on it, so dont know what it was like without specified parts.

what suggestions to fix it up, what to get the mechanic to do, aiming to try and get atleast under 10L/100km. i dont ever do free way driving, maybe motorway once a month lokl...

Getting under 10L/100 isn't easy IMO.

Economy can depend on weather conditions, tyres (roll resistance and air PSI inside), traffic, the type of petrol you used, what station you filled up at, engine temperature etc etc.

If you filled up once and your economy went up 2L/100 then I'd be interested but not too worried. See how your next one goes before you start to get really concerned.

dc2r isnt exactly an economy car. on normal driving, vtec occasionally, my eg b16 is lucky to get 400km out of its 40L tank occasionally, normally if it includes a little highway at some point. So your in the ballpark. The buddyclub condenser you have wont make a noticeable difference. So your fuel use is pretty much in the ball park. Only easy thing to check is that your thermostat is working properly... temp gauge should rise to over 1/4 high after 3 - 5 mins max in the morning

Isn't the EG and EH a 45L tank?

buy a jazz gli if u want fuel economy.

Yeah my mum's does about 7L/100 for city driving in peak hour etc, but once you get it out into the country it drops down to like 5.5L/100. Pity it's not a very interesting car IMO.

my prelude gets low 9.XL/100km consistently..i'm pretty sure a 1.6/1.8l vtec should get the same.
i work out my fuel consumption all the time and reset the tripmeter when i fill up. i will drive up to 600km on a full tank (60L capacity) iif necessary. when my tripmeter hits 600km i know i still have at least 5L of fuel left.
usually i fill up when my tripmeter hits 500-550km.

do you always use good fuel like BP ultimate? changed spark plugs/fuel filter?

if you want good fuel economy get a Hyundai i30 diesel or Ford Fiesta diesel.

i can get the i30 diesel (manual) down to 4.5l/100km

I used to get about 650km to a tank (highway)
and about 550-600 daily

Solution.. a real loud exhaust, it'll control your foot control, any time you give the accelerator some force.. too loud!

I love my corolla.

Ive got a 20valve blacktop 4age, its just as quick as an ek4, and i get 500km out of a 32 litre tank, averaging between 7.5 and 8.5 l/100km and thats with my daily drive to work and the occasional smash thru some twisties.

i used to use bp ultimate, but i now use shell v-power and can get 50km more from a tank, at the same price

OP has probably gotten slightly leadfooted.

Keep a spreadsheet from now on with ur overall fuel eff. after each fill, and then work from there. run another tank the way u do now, and then make some changes - fill ur tyres with more air, use 95 or 98RON, drive slower, don't be tempted to use vtec, keep a constant speed on freeway - hold ur right foot steady, don't change lanes too many times etc.

IMO the driver is the biggest factor for ur fuel consumption is ur right foot

are you even doing it properly?

Heres how you get your cars fuel economy.

Fill the tank up till the first click. and reset the odometer. do your drive, and then when you need to fill up, go back to the same servo and preferable the same pump and fill it up until the first click. write down how many litres it was, and then write down the kms you did, then reset. then we can do our calculations.

ill use my last fill up as an example. I filled up 30.45 litres, and i had done 409km.

so i divide 409 by 30.45 409/30.45=13.43

then i need to divide 100 by this number 100/13.43= 7.4

This is our final figure, 7.4l per 100km

30.45 divide 4.09 = 7.4l per 100kms. Much easier. :p

on around 300kms with 1/4 of tank to go, probably best run so far, but that was because i did about 100kms on the motorway so yeah.

ive changed my driving habit, from quickly getting to 3k revs and just getting up to gear 4-5 quickly as i can without going over to 3k, to now taking forever to get to 3k revs and launching real slow and driving like a turtle (using minimal accelerating as i can, as before i'd punch it quick)

I actually shift at 2k, makes me go like a granny.

Another thing is suddenly pressing the accelerator in - that causes a big slosh of fuel to go in

This week I managed 130KMs before my needle dropped at all lol. So inaccurate.

Sounds pretty good. Must be driven and maintained well!

shays, 9.8L/100km this run...

100kms on the motorway, 200kms driving like a dud turtle

you could possible check the AFM for any blockages, also you can purchase a new O2 sensor which will help prevent the car from running too rich, also a run on the dyno and a good tune will ensure the right amounts of air and fuel being mixed, resulting in better fuel economy
