Radiator Guard/Cover

Hi guys, when you open the bonnet, you'll probably see a black radiator guard / cover made of black plastic. Now my question is, what is the functionality of it? Also, is it necessary to have that for everyday driving?

I've put in a new authentic mugen grille and the bonnet wont close snuggily. What should I do?

Thats your fan shroud. Helps draw air better to the radiator.
