TESTED AND IT WORKS =D
for all those ppl that kept telling me it couldnt be done ... I DID IT ... lol
ok so after buying the back plate for a newer honda key on ebay thinking it was a full key assembly i came up with this
after telling a freind about what i had bought ... he happened to have a spare honda key that was cut wrong
so now i had both the type-r style back plate and a newer key assembly ... hrm
i ordered some original replacement EG civic keys off ebay and away we went.........
this picture shows the newer key assembly with the type-r cover and the stock grey cover next to it

the newer keys have the metal key part built into the plastic plate, the chip + buttons + battery are all removable
so i went to work with a hot hobby knife to carefully cut out the newer type of key - in my kitchen no less =D

after a bit of cutting and heating the actual key up ... it finally came away from the panel

all the parts ready for construction ...
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/the_saint7/P7190081.jpg?t=1279544635
after a bit of fideling around trying to get a nice fit ... i ended up cutting some of the rubber from the EG key so that as mutch of the key stuck out from the panel as possible
the only other part i used was the actual buttons themselves - i had planned to use the rubber mount ... but instead i just glued the buttons in with the key
this is the poxy that i used to glue all the parts together - i have used this before for alot of things and its fantastic

http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/the_saint7/P7190086.jpg?t=1279544951
i used a clamp to hold the assembly together while it set

http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/the_saint7/P7190088.jpg?t=1279544954
the finished product ...
