just found out yesterday that my vtec doesnt work. =/
floored it in 1st and 2nd from 1000rpm to 8200rpm and theres no vtec noise (baahhhhhh) just ur normal vrOoommm. then tried it again in 2nd and from 5500rpm to 7000rpm no "bahhhh" but from 7000rpm to 75000 theres a loud "Bahhh" but it goes off and back to normal vroom sound after 7500 to 8200.
the car's been driving for 30mins so its warm.

what could be wrong with the b16?
thanks guys

Wiggle the wire going to your vtec solinoid.

Checked your oil lately?

Could be several reasons, Bad vtec solenoid for one. But firstly i'd check oil presure and oil level. These are the usual culprits

Can we please leave the VTEC jokes out of this and keep the replies constructive. This is a technical forum.

thanks. :)

What year is your car?

One possibility is that the oil that pushes the pin to open up the VTEC in the solenoid might be getting rough with dirt build up...

are u throwing any codes/check engine light? u should throw an oil pressure code and switch code if its not working. if u arnt, take the solenoid off and make sure its clean.

no engine lights or anything. maybe it could be the oil. i'll change it.
is it hard takin the solenoid off?

I would believe your VTEC has fallen off.

if this is in your 97 del sol, you wont have a Vtec Pressure switch so the ECu wouldnt know that Vtec wasnt kicking in, :(

best way to know 99% is to make sure your oil level is correct, put a test light to the wire od the vtec solenoid and the other end to gnd of your test light, position the light in such a way you can see it while driving and see if your getting power to your vtec solenoid, if you still cant feel or tell if vtec is in and the light came on then you best have your oil pressure checked.

What about the vtec pressure valve?

Whats your temp at? VTEC needs to be at a certain temp for it to work? Your thermostat might be playing up.

What about the vtec pressure valve?
if was open circuit the ecu would register a fault code, MIL would come on every time you start the car, if it was blocked there is no way of telling other that remove and test or to hook up a pressure guage to the Vtec system and test.
