whats your budget? brand new or second hand?
i'd go straight pipe for performance but its defectable coz its waay too loud.

some quiet systems look into fujitsubo, they have, power getter, rm01a etc (i'd go rm01a 1500~ brand new)
spoon n1 i heard are good but someone else can help you here. no idea

i would go for a custom 2.25 or 2.5" mandrel bent, high flow cat and a oval tip or any tip of your choice, looking at roughly 900-1k+ for custom made
add more hotdog resonators for a quieter sound but usually one is enough

yeah man do a search LOL..

2 weeks prior to my B16 swap (while I still rocked the D16Y1) i fitted 2.5" mandrel bent under-axle exhaust with hotdog and cannon and it gave a great top-end gain, but it did loose torque under say 3,000RPM.. having said that, it revved effortlessly THROUGH and past 3,000RPM so it didnt bother me however the DRONE did bother me a bit on longer drives.

After my B16 swap I changed to SPOON B-Pipe and N1 Muffler and it was a lot quieter in terms of the DRONE however the ~60mm piping (2.33") which was smaller than 2.5" (but larger than 2" obviously) gave power gains accross the RPM range and gave me back some power under 3,000RPM.

This leads me to think that 2" mandrel bent exhaust on a SOHC VTEC qwould prob be perfect and 2.25" on a B16 and then 2.5 on a B18/B20..

Are the full-exhaust gains for a D16Y1 even worthwhile?

I have CAI and header. Wondering if it would even give me a tingle to do the cat and cat-back. Custom of course, not pre-fab.

What do you guys think?

There are some gains to be made from intake, exhaust, headers but its pretty subjective. An engine with headers will, generally, perform a little better and depending on the header design will allow the engine to wind out over a longer duration. Torque suffers slightly from my experience.

I had a custom system made when I first bought my EH9 VTi and it gave a nice (if somewhat loud) note but drivability was good.
