hey guys :)
over the next 2 or 3 months i will be takin the head off my car and doing a little bit of head work.
it is a 96 spec JDM ITR and only have an intake and fujitsubo catback. i have been told that the stock headers are quite good and only need upgrading when going for serious all motor.
i do want a decent kick in power but my budget is only around 1500 dollars. any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Upgrade the headers, 96' JDM ITR B18CR headers are crap.
theres a reason why honda upgraded teh headers on the 98 spec
And if you can get an Aftermarket ECU.
No need for internal work yet.
tunable ECU will done wonders for the current bolt ons.

just to elaborate..on Tai's post.
hytech big tube headers or toda headers. *thumbs up* = anywhere from $700-1100 used.
hondata s200/300 = $450-600 used.
a tune = $400-500.
you should see good gains.
save up a bit more say.. $3-4000 and you should be good for headwork and a retune for that extra "KiCK"
this gives u a rough figure.

after your headers + ecu you should be looking anywhere from 115-120 ATW. or maybe more depending on condition of your motor and size of exhaust. type of CAI etc that you have.

if youve got a budget of around 1500 you might as well change the final drive to a 4.9 or 4.7 as the 4.4 is a bit long. it would make the car accelerate faster than if it had headers n a tune

4.4 is decent for FD IMO. For $1500 I would source a decent 2nd hand header, ECU & tune.
If you want to go further (IE head build) then you'll need a lot more than $1500.
I'm getting:
- Skunk2 stage 1 cam shafts
- Skunk2 adjustable cam gears
- Supertech valve springs
- Supertech titanium retainers
- Jun valves
- Ported intake & exhaust with matched manifolds
- Re-welded combustion chambers
- VRS kit to replace all the gaskets and seals etc.
All up this is costing me $4500 and that's a very good deal IMO. I expect this would cost most other people $5500+.

Damienm makes a good point though - changing your FD to the 4.7 GBox would be a great idea. You can pick one up for about $1500+/- and could probably sell your's for $700-900 depending on condition.
Then with the remaining $600-800 get a good second hand header :)

i dont think anyone is going to be paying 600+ for a 4.4fd when they can get a 4.7fd or 4.9fd for similar price
