Hi, I'm new to the forum and have started to save for a Honda S2000. I'm still doing my research and have read the sticky threads on this forum which have been really helpful.

Coming from a rotary background I already know about compression tests, was just curious as to what sort of compression I should be looking at in a 1999-2000 model. I have this complex where I see a car for sale and I look at the kilometers like "100,000" IT NEEDS A REBUILD!

If anyone could let me what sort of compression gives an inidication to whether or not the motor is still strong, id really appreciate it.

Thanks :)
Jeremy.

100,000KM on a Honda motor is nothing. Honda motor will take a lot of abuse before something catastrophic happens.
Guy in the US has over 400,000KM on his F20C and has only required the usual wear and tear items - clutch, flywheel, and I think a diff?
The link to his thread can be found here:

When I had 100,000KM I compression tested my car.
I pulled 240 / 240/ 230 / 240. Very good numbers, surprised even myself.

"General" rule of thumb is typically compression numbers shouldn't fall shorter than 10% of the lowest number.
For example.
240/240/240/220 - Fine.
240/240/230/200 - Fine.
240/240/230/180 - Borerline.... ?? I wouldn't be game to push boost through it anyway.

220/220/200/120 - ****ed.

Most healthyish S2000's pull 190+ across all 4 cylinders, give or take.

My 2c.
