Im looking at some new front tread for my EK1 civic. I usually use 175/65R14. I would try to try a wider tyre, but realistically, how wide can i go on the civic 14" rim? Id love the 205s, but i think thats a little wide & id need 14X7s.
However im looking closely at the 195/60 sizes. Would this be ok to fit on the 14" rim?

I got 6.5" width rim, and it fits 195 nicely.... no need for 7"

Im not going to buy a 14" tyre that im going to have to get wider rims for, i may aswell buy 15" rims & be done with it.
However if i can pick up some OEM 14x6-7" rims for cheap ill consider it...

The tire information itself normally has an manufacturer's recommended rim width range, and your supplier/installer should know as well.
14 by 6 handles my 195/60 R14 semi r's, and I'm about to fit 205/55 R14's to those rims. That's for track use, so for daily use you should have no real problem with 6 inch rims..
14 by 6 rims are pretty common, but anything wider with the offset honda's need is rare. I spent a day looking at various local places go get 6.5 or 7's for the 205, and choice is very restricted.
